327 air cleaner question...dual or single snorkel?

are there any advantages to having a dual snorkel air cleaner sitting on top of your engine besides the cool factor? Mine is a stock 67 327. will the engine breath better, run smoother, have a noticeable amount of power difference from the single snorkel? pics bellow of mine and the one i am interested in purchasing.

Don't know how much of a difference it'll make in performance but I think it'll look cool

Re: 327 air cleaner question...dual or single snorkel?

Some of GM's L-79 (350HP) 327 had a dual snorkel air cleaner but I think the snorkel section was longer.

The one you have in the pic is cool though, maybe in a HP application you would see some improvement.

I've always thought dual snorkle air cleaners looked great. If the price is something you want to pay, GET IT!

With a large oval snorkel like those, there's little or nothing to be gained (besides looks) if you have a basically stock engine. Like Sideways said, probably some gains with a performance engine. Better still if you run hoses to a cold air location.

L79's where longer but more importantly unique. Here's a link to a pic.
If you ever find one you can turn a good buck on them.

Re: 327 air cleaner question...dual or single snorkel?

I pulled my single snorkle off the 283 on my 68 and put an open air breather on. I wasnt really going for looks or anything, i just needed a new filter and thought if i was gonna go it might as well do it right and buy a whole new system that would allow more air to get through. I noticed a small difference in power and gas milage but that might have been because the old filter was horibly clogged. Im surprized my motor was getting any air at all honestly.

no idea. i am trying to keep my engine bay looking stock and this one is the same design as mine with dual snorkels. wouldn't be dressing it up or down but if there is no gain then i may not get it.

Here's some. Search with 'google images' for dual snorkel air cleaners. Every car company had them.

Re: 327 air cleaner question...dual or single snorkel?

I've always called the single air cleaner like you have a 327 air cleaner. I'm not sure what the dual one is from, but must be some 327.I went to google images and searched dual snorkle 327 pictures and didn't see one. I have the Z28 dual snorkle for my '67 327 GMC but am thinking that one is cooler. More air always makes a difference, but the more HP the more noticeable with such a small additional amount. Going to open element provides a noticeable improvement to any engine over stock single or dual snorkle.

Not trying to hijack here, it is after all a 327 air cleaner, but has anybody seen one with the snorkel like this before? This is the one out of my 67 that is going in my 72.

Re: 327 air cleaner question...dual or single snorkel?

Could it be off a Big truck series? Have you looked at it in person or just this photo? Just wondering if it wasn't altered. Part number perhaps! It seems pretty unique maybe even rare?...

I went with one of these, I'm sure you've seen them before. For the Corvette option truck 350 LT-1 of course

Re: 327 air cleaner question...dual or single snorkel?

this one is altered. one side is original and the other was removed from a single and added to it. not sure what the short inlets are from though. as they have not been altered.

Re: 327 air cleaner question...dual or single snorkel?

It's laying in the seat of my truck and looks factory not altered, not sure it came on the truck from the factory, hard to say what has been changed in the last 45 years!

Looks like the snorkel was cut shorter and on an angle.
