Re: brake shoe adjusters
If you are talking about the piece that actually spreads the shoes out during adjustment, you can get those from Napa Auto parts.

Re: brake shoe adjusters
these are not the star adjusters, they are a concentric that go through the backing plate and when turned push the shoes out against the drum. there is one for each shoe and they have a locking nut on the outside of the backing plate. if this is what you are talking about, thanks for the info.

Re: brake shoe adjusters
If I understand correctly, you are referring to the top shoe pivot pin?
Haven't seen those for sale new, but possible to salvage the same thing from a rear axle?

Ahh, I see said the blind man...
I am not familiar with that vintage D44, maybe someone here will chime in later. Have you tried contacting this company to see if they can help? http://quad4x4.com/gm44F8boltclosedk...1960-1969.html

Re: brake shoe adjusters
These old drum brake systems are tough to find parts for, especially if the needed part is not a braking system part (springs and shoes).
Backing plate parts are even tougher to find, and from my experience are salvage parts only. When you do find a salvage, it will usually be worn out or busted up. You are right, most people upgrade to the disc brake open knuckle axle for obvious reasons. I myself have been gathering replacement axles with disc, and larger rear drums that everyone carries parts for. Some day I will have to convert to a 14FF and a disc brake D44, I just struggle with wanting to keep my 1968 K20 original.

Re: brake shoe adjusters
61k10, I have a closed knuckle front end at home. I will check to see if it's the same. If it is you can have the whole axle. Hope this helps K Greene

Re: brake shoe adjusters
Hey 61, I bought all of my front brake hardware and cylinders for my K10 from these guyshttp://www.kaiserwillys.com/category...ts-accessories
Does your truck have a V-8? I need a picture of the front motor mount... I've heard that the V-8's have the mount on the rear of the round crossmember and the I6's have the mount on the front... I'm Installing a 283 and my mount has well been modified/hacked up a bit |

Re: brake shoe adjusters
bhc----yes i have a v8. I was wondering how the 6 was mounted in the front, as it being longer. sounds right to me. i guess thats how you can tell if the truck came with a 6 or 8. my front cross-member is riveted to the frame and one rivet goes through the steering box mount. here is a pic------
and thanks for the info on the brake hardware--just have to figure out what i have. looks like they have a few different ones---
