Re: Any mopar guys. Just picked up this 69 Roadrunner

Nice project, check out my sig....
I'm a Mopar guy who happens to own a mid 80's C-10....

I just finished a 383/727 swap into my Satellite along with a new front suspension and interior. Now I'm thinking of doing a 408 stroker for my old Diplomat...

Keep the pics coming.

Looking at the VIN it's a 383 car. In 1969 the only other option would be the Hemi or the 440+6 which was only available with the A12 package.

Re: Any mopar guys. Just picked up this 69 Roadrunner

I love any of the 60-70 musclecars. One thing I love about MOPAR's is they are pretty hard to fake so it's a lot easier to be sure what you are buying is the real thing.

What are the plans? Did it come with the drive train?

Re: Any mopar guys. Just picked up this 69 Roadrunner

Car is an original 383 4-speed car. But someone swapped in an 318/904. It is an A31 High Performance Axle Package car with the 3.91 suregrip rearend. Which it still has .
My plans for the car are to make it a copy of my dads sunfire yellow roadrunner minus the post.. I've wanted one since i was in elementy school ;p.
Heres his in the 70's

Ripped out all the interior

Cleaned up the Dash

Dropped the gas Tank.

Trunk floor looks nice underneath. But is still getting replaced due to the condition on the top of it.
The Floor of the car is in awesome shape and doesnt need any replacing. Hardly any rust.

Vin number on the 8 3/4 suregrip

Roadrunner

The whole bottom of the car is covered in this undercoating and when you chip it off it reveals black paint with green overspray. Looks new underneath this

I plan to make the interior like this

Oh and it has a Clean Title which is now registered in my name

Re: Any mopar guys. Just picked up this 69 Roadrunner

A little later after I got it the guy I bought it from gave me the info of the guy he purchased it from . Got some information on the car off an old ebay listing. It hasn't been on the road since 1983 due to a front end crash. It had resided in Torrance CA most of its life (My birth town ). Also where my dad lived and owned his roadrunner. My dads was sold in the late 70's and after it was sold got wrapped around a telephone pole.. Some weird connections going on here. Then Yesterday I got in contact with the guy who sold it to the guy I bought it from.(Coincidentally he posted in my project thread on 69roadrunner.net) He had this to say "Okay here is the story. I bought it from the brother of the owner of Surf City Garage car care products. I found it on Craigslist. The owner of Surf City bought it and parted it out to fix another car in his massive collection. According to his brother (the guy I bought it off of) it was given to him by his brother to discard and keep the money. It had no title and the brother promised me a title. Alright so he never got it for me. I attempted to get it from Tim (surf city garage) and they could not find it and told me they had a title for it but never put it in their name because it was a parts car. So off to the DMV service and we ran the plates. Turns out that the black plate on it did not belong to the car. It was still registered non-op from 1983 (!) to a lady in Torrance and I sent her a certified letter with a bill of sale for her to sign. If I did not get a response from her in 2 weeks I could get a new title. She did not respond. I became the registered owner and it is now currently registered. A few months ago I recieved another Road Runner in a trade and it was in way better condition so we decided to sell your car to Alpine Trading through an ebay auction. He picked it up a few days before you popped in here. So I dont really have much for you other than I thought it was a hi performance axle car because of the big radiator opening. Turns out the radiator support has been replaced. Thats about it."

You're getting after it. Congrats on the floor pans being in such nice shape. That interior is going to look killer with the yellow!

Yeah I love it. My dad said you better do the interior brown to match the yellow! (His was brown also)

Yeah and my dad has a 383 in his garage with 5 hours on it from the factory. Has a pinhole which leaks coolant so I'll patch that up and use that motor until I can build a 426 hemi

Re: Any mopar guys. Just picked up this 69 Roadrunner

I LOVE LOVE LOVE 69 Road Runners!! IMHO, they are THE year for Road Runners! I am a proud owner of a 1969 1/2 Road Runner. Originally an auto 440, my dad bought it circa 1972 and promptly left the 440 on the strip... It got gutted, a new 383MAG with a 4 Speed & Mr. Gasket rachet shifter.
It's titled in my name, but I just can't bring myself to drag it out of Dad's barn... it has always been his baby.

Not being a MOPAR expert, I'd like to hear opinions from you guys. Is the Hemi really the quickest from the factory? I've heard that 440's with the six pack were the top of the heap.

IDK about factory, but the car I described above has left Hemi's & 440's both in the dust... The 383 (built) shaved 2 seconds off the 1/4 mile time of the 440 & the 383 was able to handle the abuse that the 440 couldn't.

On the other hand... My cousin's Super Bee (built 440 Six Pack) will leave my Road Runner in the dust...

On the street, a properly tuned 440HP will run about even with a Hemi. The 1/4 mile is totally different. Hemi's need to be kept in tune though.

A stock 383 is no stronger, or faster, than a 440, especially a 440+6 '69 A12 Road Runner.....those cars are brutal with good tires.

I just built a 383 for my Satellite and it will be the last one I ever build. The piston selection sucks if you're wanting decent compression and quench and it costs the same to build a 440.

A 426 Stage II Max Wedge (non S/S package) will blow away everything I mentioned above...

Sweet score on your roadrunner! My friend's Dad used to have a numbers matching 440 6 pack 4 speed car. He sold it to put his daughter through college. My buddy still hates that. Your car has very little rust, you can't beat that!

Re: Any mopar guys. Just picked up this 69 Roadrunner

Bought this cluster for 30 bucks

Cleaned it up a little more lastnight

Waiting on POR 15. Eventually I'm going to pull the glass out to pull the dash with it. Also Have to replace half of the cowl with a new one it has 1/2 of bondo on it. But I don't want to pull glass until the whole interior has a good coat of POR15 in it.

It is also my favorite muscle car. My Dad bought one new in 1969....could there be any cooler car to a kid than one with a roadrunner picture on it? I think not......congrats on your dream car...I'm jealous!
