What's with these extra mirror holes on my door?

Just bought a '69. It has what appear to be stock mirrors on it, but I can see the holes in the below picture, as well as a couple more at the top of the window frame. Both doors are identical. Did these trucks come with mounting holes for both types of mirrors, or did somebody install larger mirrors, and go back to smaller ones? I'm also trying to figure out if the larger mirrors, mounted to the extra holes would have been standard, or if the smaller ones are?

What's the general consensus with mirror type now days... Small or large?

looks like it had west coast jr mirrors on it at one point - however, I don't see the corresponding holes in the upper door frame, so not so sure about that.
the current ones are the stock ones.

Thank you. If these are stock, then they will stay, and I'll patch the holes.

Thanks

I recently took off some ugly 1970 Firebird mirrors and installed stock style 1969 round mirrors. I now have the same two extra holes you have.

Look on the SPID and it will tell you if it had west coast jr mirrors stock or not.

Is the SPID the sticker in the glovebox?

Looks like those crappy ford mirrors would have mounted.

There would have been another set of holes in the middle of the door, unless they were filled.

After 43 years, who knows what could have been there.

Also, with the mirror arms you have now, there is also a round mirror that will mount on them. I have them on my truck, I think it's a lot cleaner look, but much less visibility.

Re: What's with these extra mirror holes on my door?

The truck was most likely delivered with the small round mirrors and had a set of Jr. West Coast style installed for camper use. There were many many variations both from GM as accessory and aftermarket vendors.
The picture clearly shows the holes they are just a little small in the picture. This is at 600%.
Learning to work with pictures beyond there initial presentation is a good tool to have for any sort of restoration and particularly CL sales offerings.

Thanks so much. I've decided to stick with the mirrors that are on it.
