2nd Blazer, 1st Time on Forum

Hey guys, noob here. I just wanted to stop by and say hi and say thanks for a ton of great information! I'll be spending quit a bit of time on here.

So I just bought a '72 K5 from my dad. I wish I had a better photo but I just got it yesterday and it was rainy/windy and there are leaves all over the truck. This is actually my second '72 K5. I had one about 16 years ago, it was my first truck at 16 years old. It wasn't anywhere near as nice as this one.

About 10 years ago my dad did a restoration to this one. He went through everything. It's only got 27k miles on it since the overhaul. Okay enough of that, here's a couple photos! Thanks for checking it out!

Thanks!

So I've got some plans for this guy...

1. Lift - 4" front 6" rear - not sure which to go with yet.
2. Rebuild entire brake system
3. Paint job - I'd like to go with the orange/red with the white stripe down the side.
4. Change to a manual transmission, something a little more modern.
5. Get the A/C running, new one installed 10 years ago but never charged.

I guess I'll post up a quick photo of my first one too. This was my ride 16 years ago...old photo.

Nice truck. Now I may run into another K5 guy when I go to the Downers Grove cruise nights (I work in Lisle). I would love to see it in person some time.

Welcome - great looking K5 to work with. What size tire are you wanting to run?

Thanks man, yeah I'll definately take it up there. Are they already done doing the cruise nights for the year?

Well I'm undecided at the moment. If I move forward with the lift I'd go with 35's but if I do that I won't be able to fit the thing in my garage. That's killing me a little because I don't want to leave this thing sitting outside all the time, epsecially covered in snow all winter. I'd like to keep it dry.

Maybe I just need to go for it...and get a car cover.

Re: 2nd Blazer, 1st Time on Forum

Well it's been forever since I've posted in here and I seem to have messed up the link to my photos in the first post and now can't edit it (probably because its been so long) so here are those photos again...

I finally started giving this truck a little attention so I figured I'd update my thread with some photos.

Yep, I can edit the above post...they must just have a time limit on them. So this poor rig has been sitting in the garage for a couple years being neglected. Work travel has made it hard to give her any attention. I've finally had some time at home so I've been able to do a few things. I just recently changed all of the exterior lighting out. LED flashers, tail lights and marker lights. Talk about an improvement over stock!

Soooo much better!!!

Also put in some new Halogen headlights and a heavy duty wiring harness for them. I still haven't been able to test them out or aim them yet. It's freezing up here in the Midwest and this rig doesn't go outside when it's wet or there's salt on the road.

I also finally got around to installing the factory vacuum gauge into the gauge cluster. These parts have been sitting out on the bench for a couple years now.

Replaced the speedometer too. The original one seemed to be a little slow. One cool thing is my replacement speedo's odometer has an extra digit. When this truck was restored 14 years ago the odometer was reset to zero. I set this new one back to where it's really supposed to be. Now it shows 167k miles instead of 28k.

She got some new shoes recently too but I can't seem to find the photo on my phone. I'll try and get those posted up a little later on.
