Where are all the trucks????

I have been searching for a clean (unmolested) 72 3/4 ton truck for a weekend beater. I can remember when they were everywhere and you could buy a really decent original truck for 2k but it seems like even the 3/4 ton trucks are disappearing fast.
Any suggestions on where to look other than C/L

Re: Where are all the trucks????

Thanks Joe! You have the idea and you sure couldnt beat the price but I had already called on it and no title plus problem with the motor. Bad valve or something like that.
Heck, I have the 350 motor from Randy's eagle chevy so maybe I will get lucky enough to find a nice one cheap with a title and a bad engine. I can dream I guess....

Re: Where are all the trucks????

I been seeing a few get parted like crazy on here from a guy in KS. Picking a few parts up from him myself. He just started parting a 3/4ton recently, the body was one of the best I have seen in Ks that hadn't been restored. Wish I would have stumbled on it.

I think most of them been getting parted out and such. Or being changed over to half tons. As long as they are living on and not being crushed, it's alright in my books.

As for another site other than C/L, don't really know many sites for Missouri. You could try http://www.bookoo.com/loc-Missouri.h...e=Missouri&z=7 and choose your area. But I don't think there is much traffic on that site in some area's.

Re: Where are all the trucks????

I have mixed emotions on the trucks getting parted.
I am guilty of finding and selling a few to b e cut up for parts but I wouldnt consider them nice enough to keep and use as a driver necesarily.
Unfortunately or fortunately depending on your position I guess they are worth more in parts than as a whole truck.
Thanks and I will take a look to see if that yields anything.

Re: Where are all the trucks????

Don't feel so bad 2000.00 here would never buy you anything you could actually drive home. I'm looking for a winter driver and its impossible to find anything for under 4000 that could be driven right away.

Re: Where are all the trucks????

I don't know. I just bought a '69 similar to what you're wanting for $1,600. It's mechanically sound, and has a rebuilt 350 v8 in it. Happened to see it parked near my place with a for sale sign on it. The guy started out wanting 3k, then 2k, and I talked him down from 2k to $1,600

I suppose these could get harder to find as they get a year older and more worn out every year that passes, if they aren't being cared for.

Re: Where are all the trucks????

You wont find a truck in that shape around here for less then $3000. If that truck posted above had a title it would sell for $2,500 or more around here.

They are everywhere here out west...most of them are priced pretty good and are relatively rust free

Re: Where are all the trucks????

don't feel bad. I looked high and low for a specific-optioned 72 3/4t and then bought a 71 (similarly optioned with pretty close to what I was looking for) - the NEXT day in town (and this is a small town) I spotted a no-kidding 72 Cheyenne Super Custom Camper and a 72 Cheyenne C20. I almost fell over (but still happy with what I bought. Well, actually, I'll withhold my euphoria until AFTER it arrives... ) When it rains, it pours.

Re: Where are all the trucks????

Seems like the 20s are getting parted or chopped to make SWB 10s. Might be good for the C20 market in 10 or so years.

I think the ochre Cheyenne MIGHT be for sale - no sign yet, but it never moves. The white Super is iffy... I think the guy drives it to/from work, but he "parks it provocatively as if it were calling me to buy it...."

Re: Where are all the trucks????

i paid 1800 or 1900 for mine less than a year ago. c20 need to do a little rocker work but its a california truck so thats about it. I looked at 2 others before getting this one. they are around. 2k was my top price and I was annoyed because I was pretty sure I could find one for a grand. lol I guess its not 15 years ago any more.

Re: Where are all the trucks????

Actually Blacksheep came to the rescue for me. Going to pick up his 71 GMC 2500 this weekend, and real close to my homestead.
I am still amazed at the rapidly dissapearing 67-72 trucks out there. I guess I shouldnt be surprised since the 67's are going to turn 50 in only 4 years.
Thanks for the help everyone

Re: Where are all the trucks????

Good deal. I had found a 72 3/4 long bed I was going to post up here I seen on CL in my area. A bit far for you to drive, but the condition of it is pretty good and they only asking $1500. I didn't think you would want to drive that far. It was purchased recently by the current owner, the previous owner's add is still up. He picked it up for $1250. I been watching this truck since it came on the listing.

Current listing
http://ksu.craigslist.org/cto/3337505507.html

PO listing
http://ksu.craigslist.org/cto/3275525792.html

Can't convince the wife to let me get it....lol
