Doesn't look good. The lines are way off. Our trucks are too square and the beds are too round.

It looks "OK" on the earlier bodystyle, but I think it would look stupid on our bodystyle.....Why not just go with the step side bed that belongs on the truck??? It's the best looking one anyway....

I have seen it done. I'll look and see if I can't find some pics. It doesn't look too bad, but not as good as it does on the 67-72 trucks.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like it on any of them...

Here ya go. http://www.shelbournes.net/trucksite..._newer_bed.jpg I saw this in person and I really don't care for it. Like metioned on the 67-72 the lines flow so much better.

73-87 stepside beds

I'll tell you why. because the 73-87 beds rust like crazy , are very hard to get clean enough to look right( little seams, spotwelds, etc. ) and always need a floor. parts are high IF you can find them. they didn't even make repop fenders until about 3 years ago and they are still $300 ea. , GM fenders are out of sight. even the little steps are $70 ea. the only thing cheap is the tailgate and then you have doggie collars hanging off each side of the tailgate swinging around making a mess of the paint. AND he probably can't find one half as easy as an 88-up with their smooth, latching tailgate ,fiberglass fenders and integrated steps.
it's the appeal of the easy way out.
Don't take that wrong ! I like a well detailed stepside 73-87 but I don't have time for that amount of work.
The 88-stepbed up looks OK on ours if its a full custom like the pic someone just posted of the slammed trucks but really matches up great to 67-72's .

If I get around to selling this stepside I have , somewhere along the line someone will look at it that has already looked at a few that are NOT as clean as the guy advertising said they are and realize that one with no rust bubbles under the seams and no bad bodywork waiting to pop out again is worth paying more for .

As an added note In the many years i have done these trucks I found that there is a faithfull following for stepsides, like a cult ! and if any of you southern boys that had thought about coming to Truck Carlisle, Pa. but thought you could not afford it well listen. find one of those clean southern stepbeds for $200--300. turn it upside down and mount it to the bed of your truck and drive up here and at Carlisle you will get $750 for it . Walaa trip paid for .

can you tell I been waiting to have time to write that reply for a while.

Well, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it....I'd rather spend the time and have the right bed looking AWESOME then take the easy way and have people say it looked "OK"....but hey, that's just my opinion.........

well it certainly is different. I like being different, but not sure if i would dare to be that different. but i think if its done right like filling in those mouilding lines around the bottome of the bed and stuff it would look good. but seems to look better on the lower truck though. the right stepside bed does look better, and i love stepsides and want one pretty bad but like crossy said finding a ggod that doesn't need breaking the bank work or price tag to look good is tough. i think i'll stick to the fleetside, unless i get lucky and a good one falls in my lap.
