Post please help! 1972 k5

i have a 72 blazer it has a 305 in it thats not original i need to find out what its out of before i can start buying parts any tips on how to find this out?

Look up the engine number online and it will tell you how to decode it. Its on the pass. side block near the top of the engine. Its on a flat portion of the block I believe
