Quiet tailgate hinge?

Does anyone make a quiet tailgate hinge? The top of my tailgate is snug against the rubber bumpers but I can still hear my hinges when I hit a bump. Does anyone make a urethane pivot?

Re: Quiet tailgate hinge?

Search for silver dollar on this site. In that build thread the builder used a cable and a part off of a dodge Dakota if I remember correctly. I'll look for a link.

My tailgate supports are quiet, they are pressed against a rubber bumper while the gate's closed, I was hoping to find a urethane pivot instead of the steel pivot, this is the part that the gate hinges on. Thanks though!

Re: Quiet tailgate hinge?

I've always thought it would be cool to use a hydraulic hinge like what they put on newer Toyota pickups. That way you could just open the gate and let go and watch it lower itself. Might be a cool upgrade if you're looking to change it up a little

I wonder if maybe you just need to adjust it so it closes tighter? Is that even possible on these tailgates?

Re: Quiet tailgate hinge?

Brothers carries the urethane pivots if your talking about where the gate pivots against the bed.

I would try to cut down a couple of pipe caps. The ones they use to protect the threads in transit.

Re: Quiet tailgate hinge?

I'm starting to think I'm going to turn a urethane skateboard wheel on my lathe to the same diameter as the socket the pivot fits into, I think it would work. I would leave the sealed bearings in it, remove the pivot and thread the center of the bracket that the held the pivot so I can put a bolt through the bearings. Seems like someone would be making something like that already, it would really quite down the tailgate over bumps.

That's perfect! I'll check it out! Thanks! Those look like they would eliminate rattling going down the road.

I'm interested in a pair for my 72 Blazer when you have them available. When do you think you will have them?

I'll wait ! So, is all the metal stainless steel with the Delrin surround? Looks like a great product. Couple this with some cable lift gate 'hinges' and the tailgates should be as quiet as they can be. Now if I could get rid of the other rattles
