factory posi
i have an 86 c10 it has a gov-loc posi, its missing some clutch disks so im looking for a better factor posi to replace it... so what fits? the the earlier 10 bolt 8.5 28 spline "S spring" type out of camaros work? or what will interchange? just talking carrier in my stock housing.

Any of the 28 spline 8.5" posi carriers will work from 71 on up, so long as you grab one that is the same series as yours (aka: 3 series/4 series gear ratios)
Right around 1988 GM switched the 8.5" rear to a 30 spline axle. So basically anything below that year range will drop in yours, which gives you a wide variety to search from, shouldn't be hard to find a good ole clutch style spring loaded posi. |

how do i know what series i have... it has 2.73 on the spid and 3.73 in it now thats series 3 right? and what are the series denotions?

On the 8.5's the carrier breaks are 2.56 or taller gear. Or 2.73 and shorter gear.
If you find anything with 2.73 (which is very common) or shorter, it will work with your 3.73's. So anything with 2.73/3.08/3.42 etc... |
