Sound deadening? Dynamat?

What are people's opinions on this stuff? I just bought new weatherstripping and door pins to seal up my doors and not have to slam them. Pretty soon I'll actually want to put in new carpet. I'm considering dynamat-ing the cab of my truck... is it worth the effort and expense? The stuff is not as cheap as I thought it would be..

Just don't listen to those that buy tar based stuff from thier local Home Depot or menards. The stuff will smell on hot days.If you want to be cheap, go ahead....if you want it done well, spend the money and buy Dynomat or something similar. I will be putting the good stuff in both my K5 Blazer and C-10 shorty in the Spring.

If you want to stop rattling peel and seal (don't worry about a smell) second skin, lizard skin etc. Of you want road noise out you should also use a mass loaded vinyl. Dynomat is overpriced and remember the key is prep

A furom member had stuff like dyno Matt but its called rhino mat and a lot cheaper

I have "Peel and Seal" from Lowes installed in 3 trucks and have no issue what so ever with odors.

Dynamat is an outstanding product but I couldn't justify the cost/reward.

That's the kind of advice I'm looking for... looks like I can do the whole truck for $85! I'm just trying to eliminate that "tin can echo" these trucks have.

Also - if you want to avoid the possibility of future odours with rotted jute underpad on your carpet (a big issue in rainy Vancouver) you can substitute the underpad with water heater wrap (the aluminum looking bubble wrap) spray adhesive and mold it to the floor. Nothing to hold in moisture under the carpet.

Before you just go buy a bunch of stuff and start to put it all over the cab, figure out what your desired end result is first.

Buying hundreds of dollars worth of dynamat, or peel and seal, or whatever and tossing 2 or 3 layers over every bit of metal won't result in it being as quiet as you think it might, and ultimately will be a kind of expensive disappointment.

Like what king-918 said, if you want to reduce road noise then Mass Loaded Vinyl is your friend. It actually is a barrier that blocks sound.

A really good site to read is http://sounddeadenershowdown.com, which gives a great idea of how much deadener (dynamat, raammat, etc) is needed (about 25% coverage) vs how much mass loaded vinyl is needed (as much as possible!)
