door handle removeable tool?

I have always used a old spoke from a bike. I know someone makes the proper tool?

Re: door handle removeable tool?

longhornman always touts using a rag, and it sure seems like that would work well.
I have the tool, and it works too, but it's one more thing to have in the tool box taking up space.

I got mine dirt cheap from harbor freight with the 20% off coupon. It's not plastic either.

Re: door handle removeable tool?

From the link SOM posted -- cheap, and works amazingly well. I tried the rag also, but prefer the tool.

Damn, I bent up a small flathead just to take mine off

*I knew there was a "real" tool for it, but I'm that cheap... and it was a crappy screwdriver...*

That's what I used to do. Bent a few clips, lost a few clips, taught the neighborhood kids a few new words.... finally spent a few bucks on the right tool and never looked back.

Lmao at the neighborhood kids comment.

I agree. This tool makes it very easy, and it's so cheap that you should really just get it.

Re: door handle removeable tool?

I bet it's got a GM Special Tool Number, like "J-2709", or something. I've had one for years, thought I lost it, bought another [chinee] and then found the first one, a KD-Tool even. Can't do it right without 'em.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: door handle removeable tool?

Here's what you do. Go to Harbor Freight and get you some picks. If you chose the right curved one, you can get each door handle off in less than two minutes. Then you don't have handle removal tool just laying around until the next time you need it. The picks are multifunction

I have used the same bent flat blade for over 20 years. But you can probable get that tool at your local parts store.

Re: door handle removeable tool?

I used the rag trick for years and still do when junk yarding. I also have the tool (although not as long as the rag)and it does work better than the rag especailly when the spacers are really tight and it seems too save some clips

old habits die hard and there is ALLWAYS a rag around
