Re: brand new belt squealing

Is the alt turning ? If not its seized. If that's not it is it flopping ? If so re tension it as tight as possible. If all else fails clean the belt groves in all pulleys. And then while its running thro some powdered borax soap on the belt. The grainuials will clean it out better. Or could be a cracked water pump pulley. My 350 had that high pitch chirp noise at high rpm

Re: brand new belt squealing

Take the belts off and using a medium to fine grit sand paper, sand all the grooves of the pulleys then slightly scuff the sides of the belts to get a better "grip" on the pulley grooves. Replace, retighten belts and start it up. If squeeling persists, you've got bearings going out in the water pump or alternator or power steering pump. Maybe a.c compressor or A.I.R. pump if you have them.

Re: brand new belt squealing

Exactly what it is. That being belt conditioner. While the engine is running you spray it on and under the belt and it makes the belt a little tacky. I use it on mine a few times every other month. Even with an underdrive my belts sqeel like hell if I Jump the throttle from idle at a light

It's also cool to use as a ghetto track bite for street racers but you didn't hear that from me

Re: brand new belt squealing

Ah then yes you Definitly have something dragging somewhere. Pull the belt and spin everything by hand and see if a pump or alternator are causing excessive drag. Everything should feel smooth

Re: brand new belt squealing

Pulley misalignment will cause belt squeal also. If you have already sprayed the belts and found it immediately stopped the squeal but it came back after a minute or two then it is definately not a bearing issue.

Re: brand new belt squealing

Mine does it every couple of months on my 6.2l. I just retention the alternator belt then it
Goes away for a long time. Best to have someone else tighten the belts while you pull the breaker bar on the alternator back with all your mite.
