79 BBC 4x4 Headers
Hey folks, I'm looking to upgrade my headers. I got a 1979 with a 454 automatic, currently I am running some cheap flowmasters that needed some not so gentle heat/hammer massage to fit. These were meant as a temp solution and now am ready to upgrade to a good quality/fitting header.
What good header have you had success with build quality and fit. Part number or link is greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

Re: 79 BBC 4x4 Headers
I have 1979 with a 350. I am running 3" long tube headers with 2 1/2" pipe, 18" glassbacks, and it sounds good. The headers are flowtech brand and I have been really impressed with them. You can just google it and find the right application. I got mine on ebay for $150

Re: 79 BBC 4x4 Headers
I put these . Hedman's ELITE Hedders on my 1976 GMC I ton big block. I would get them again if I needed another set. On the other hand, I just put the same headers (elite)on a 71 blazer 4x4 350 engine and I would never use them again for this application.... Terrible fit and a 4 hour install.

Re: 79 BBC 4x4 Headers
Thanx for the response. Funny thing, I just ordered a set of hedman elites, I hope they work as well as yours do. I found the passenger side tubes on the cheapies were hitting my front drive shaft and needed a little heat and pound action.
Currently waiting on some 781 heads that I have had reworked. So at that time I am going to hit the 454 up with a new torque cam, roller rockers, timing set and the elites. Should be a few more ponies to play with then.

Re: 79 BBC 4x4 Headers
I'm a big fan of Heddman headers. I just did exhaust on my '86 K30 dually with 454 and replaced the 2x4 headers with 4x4 Heddmans. Why anybody thought headers would be better than 4 wheel drive you got me, but as you note with your cheapies, interferes with front driveshaft. 2x4 preclude the use completely!
I was going to go back to manifolds, but I wanted to do exhaust myself and I couldn't find any decent pre-bent headpipes for the big block trucks. Hope the Elite's work well for you.

Re: 79 BBC 4x4 Headers
checking in to see how the fitment turned out. Hoping they eneded up nowhere near the spring hangers... let me know when you get a chance please. Pictures would be GREAT!
