Side moulding

Hey guys, I have some side moulding that I need to remove for painting, how do you go about doing this? Also, can it be put back on after I take it off?

The trim can easily be reused if it's not damaged in removal.

To remove it, you need to figure out how each clip is attached to the truck. If it's still stock, then there will be a combination of screws through the face of the trim, clips with bolts using nuts or speed nuts, spring loaded push in clips, and maybe some plastic clips using double sided tape.

You've got easy access to the backs of all of the clips except for the upper trim along the bedsides, and that is probably spring clips or adhesive. If they're the spring clips, I know some guys have had good luck using the broad side of a 2x4 to push down on the trim and slowly pull one edge of it away from the truck to pop the clips out. Just take your time to see what's holding each piece on and undo it one clip at a time.

Of course, sometimes POs take shortcuts to attach trim so you might run into something unexpected, but take your time and it will all be good.

good info curt - the 2x4, makes sense. That's my tool of choice for most things anyway.
