Potentially horrifying discovery...

Have a set of drop spindles laying around that I took off my shortbed and replaced with a set of Belltech units. They were covered in grease when I took them off so I never really got a good look at them. Took them to work and hot tanked them. When I pulled them out, it looked as though they were "fabricated" spindles. That is to say, there are visible weld marks where somebody obviously welded them together. There are no identifying marks other than a part number that reads 264GM11N.

Are there any manufacturers out there that produce "welded" spindles or are these some kind of horrific freakshow home made units? I have them up on CL, but I don't want to sell them to someone if they're cobbled together death units.
