powerglide problems...help
hey all ... so im having trouble with my 2 speed powerglide ,
when I engage it in drive , the truck revs high and slowly crawls to the next gear and finally kicks in after about ten seconds. So I obviously cant drive it around town . But when I put it in reverse , it works great!! please help , DIY fixing or other options .... anyone know how much a rebuild on a powerglide runs $$$ ... oh and its behind a 283 automatic.. thanks in advance !! |

Re: powerglide problems...help
Have you had the pan off the trans? I would suggest a screen & fluid swap, If you have not done that? I have seen that 'crutch' an old glide for a few more miles, & it will only hit you about 25-30 bones crazyL

Re: powerglide problems...help
You will find it bolted to the valve body(with a couple bolts), after you remove the pan. A couple things to look for...lots of silver (as in the fluid in the pan looks lkie siver paint), or lots of black. Black is beautiful....but not on our food, or in the trans pan I have seen those old trans "varnish the fluid"...you might get lucky, or not....IMHO, worth a try on that glide?
