Carbon Fiber Hood 67-68

We are working towards making a hood for a 67/68 C10. Thats the good news. The cost would be appx $2500. Also, would you be more interested in a stock looking hood, or a 2" cowl hood. Cost would be the same, but the cowl hood may be a bit stronger. The cost of the molds is about 4 grand, so we need to have some confirmed sales to get it going. Let us know here. Happy New Years

I would love to have a stock style CF hood. Are your plans to make this so it's bolt on or would we have to use hood pins?

Definitely needs to be a 2" cowl similar to the 69-72 cowl hood. I think the cost might be prohibitive for a lot of guys....but, I can't wait to see it!

If I win the lottery, I'll be in line. I like the idea, and it would definetely be cool, but just out of my budget.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood 67-68

I have no issue with steel and see no benefit to what weight a carbon fiber hood would remove,so I'm one who will keep the $2,500 in his pocket. CF is for little lightweight ricers IMO.

There would be a definite advantage for autocrossing/road course/drag racing where you need better front/rear weight bias. For the average trucks on the road, no, there would be no real advantage other than bragging rights.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood 67-68

There may be a significant weight savings in carbon fiber vs. steel, but I'm not sure there is a huge amount being saved vs. the fiberglass hoods that are already available at a fifth of that price tag.

I personally think a more sellable item would be a carbon fiber top/hatch for the Blazers/Jimmys where it has more advantages than just a few nitche market racing applications and bragging rights. There a thin carbon fiber skinned (inner/outer probably based off the double wall top) and foam filled could probably cut the weight in half and make top removal way easier, And there you are a single source and not competing against a market with significant competition. Just a thought.

Sounds like an 8-10k item to me. Probably more demand for hoods, too. Blazer tops are available for free because you should already have one.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood 67-68

....this thread shouldn't be a debate over steel vs. carbon fiber!...I think it's an awesome idea!......although I'm not a fan of hoodscoops of any kind on c10's, but whatever. I hope you can get this endeavor of the ground, get the price down some, and it leads into the other years as well...the 73-79 c10's could def benifit from a stonger lighter hood, as the stockers are usually always bent!...and I'd love one for my '86.....I don't care who you are carbon fiber is badass!

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood 67-68

C/F would be very cool but well out of my reach for a DD.
