Clutch and Brake Pedal Locations

I'm finally getting to a point where I've got time to start work on the 49' project that I picked up over the summer. I'm using the stock frame with a Mustang II front suspension. I will be running a Saginaw 3 speed manual transmission with a Borg Warner 12v Electric Overdrive and a small block 350.

I've got the motor and tranny in the chassis and I'm beginning to think about mounting the brake and clutch pedals. I want to keep them mounted to the frame for a clean firewall. I also want a hydraulic clutch and power brakes. The truck came with a universal, frame mounted, brake master cylinder/power booster. But, after looking at its location, I don't think its in the right place. I've got the bucket seats sitting in the cab (which is not in my garage with the chassis) and they are about 31" center to center. If the brake pedal is centered with the driver's seat, then it should be about 15 1/2" from the center of the chassis. Right now, its more like 9 1/2" from the center of the chassis. This seems wrong to me.

So, my question is, where are the original brake and clutch pedal located in reference to the center of the chassis? I didn't get the original pedals and linkages when I bought the truck. I'd also like to know where the original pedal pivot point is located for/aft and up/down.....measurements off the front and the top surface of the frame would be great if anybody out there has a stock chassis in their garage that they could measure for me.

It looks like you are in the right spot. If you look at the outside of the frame you will see a big hole right about in that spot. The hole is about an inch big or so. That is the original mount for the pedal pivot mount. I just took my original pedals off of my 53 Sub and put speedways mount on.

Anybody got any decent pics of the original setup? Are the original pedal locations good?

He just said exactly what I was thinking. If the pivot point is at or very close to the original position you should be ok but you still have to figure out how to pivot a clutch pedal on that bolt that the brake pedal hinges on.

Yeah, I know. I think I can get it all in there, but I'm going to have to work out the mounting and linkage. What I've currently got is obviously going to have to change. I just don't want to do all that work and end up with a brake pedal that is about where the gas pedal should be.

I'd also like to see the stock setup. I'd like to have a hydraulic clutch, but I'd settle for mechanical linkage if that is easier to set up.

What is the 3 speed OD transmission out of and what year?
Did the early 64-65 Chevelles have a OD 3 sp?

The 1964 Factory Assembly Manual show a three speed OD transmission as RPO M10.

I think my tranny came out of an Impala, but I really don't know. But, its the 12v model, not the 6v model that is much more common.

I would rather have a Tremec 5 speed, but I already had this so in it goes.
