Big block 454 w/turbo 400 17,000 original miles
I have the opportunity to buy a 1984 gmc motorhome with only 17,000 original miles. My question is the drivetrain, carbureted 454 with a turbo 400 that runs like a top. What's that I the whole MOTORHOME worth?

2k for the engine and tranny? Motor home has no other use for me except for the like tilt that's in it.

Re: Big block 454 w/turbo 400 17,000 original miles
your lookin to buy the motor and trans for what? personally 17k miles i wouldnt even touch it.
the reason why, its been sitting for ever. probbaly a sludge machine. its an 84 so right off the bat its probbaly a 7.5:1 compression engine, meaning smog heads that flow worse than a playdo star maker, and needing new pistons to attempt to make any compression. would i buy it? nope. t400s are around 100 rebuildable, and parts yard complete 454s are in the 200-400 range. is this more of the answer you wanted? |

Yeah I kinda figured it was more trouble than it's worth. Thanks for the input. Price is $400 by the way.

Hey Shawn, its probably worth that. Rebuild it with a good set of heads and scrap the rest.

Re: Big block 454 w/turbo 400 17,000 original miles
I passed this deal up even though I had plenty of room in the driveway Funny thing was I had out it on CL just to see if I'd get any bites and sure enough as soon as I told my buddy I would pass like an hour a guy calls and says he needed it for a place to live. I told my buddy to call him. I listed it for $1799. Oh well easy come easy go at least I still got the view in my driveway.
