Steering Wheel Swap with Turn Signal Cancel Cam (HELP!)
I bought a late model S-10 ('91) steering wheel for my '69 truck. I can't get the '91 steering wheel on all the way. The turn signal cancel cam protrudes out too much. Did anyone making this swap have to modify their cancel cam (white round thing that holds bearings down)? Or were you able to use the 90's style cam? Not sure if the later model will fit on the bearing side. It looks a little different.

Check out that link. It's only two posts, and from what I read, looks like it may help you solve your dilemma.

Re: Steering Wheel Swap with Turn Signal Cancel Cam (HELP!)
I read that post. And feel more confused than when I started. LOL I get the part where he is saying to use the spring and contact point/wire from the '92 steering wheel in the cancelling cam from the 1969.
I don't follow the point where he said to remove the metal rod and spring from the van steering cam???? He never said what to do with those parts. And still the same as when I began.........My 1992 steering wheel will not slide completely on the steering shaft threads with the stock turn signal cancelling cam. The cam is spaced to wide. There is no room left on the shaft for the nut to screw on. Anyone else tried this modification? |

Re: Steering Wheel Swap with Turn Signal Cancel Cam (HELP!)
When i swapped on my billet wheel it would not fit and i spent like an hour messing with it. Finally went to put the old wheel back on and SAME problem! Wouldnt push on enough to put the nut on. What the hell? Anyways turned out that the steering shaft slid down a bit into the column and thats why there wasnt enough sticking out to be able to screw the nut on. I pulled the shaft back up and then everything fit no problem.

Re: Steering Wheel Swap with Turn Signal Cancel Cam (HELP!)
OK....I got this. Thanks to all of you for your knowledge and help. And help with me finding the right posts. My boss says I spend all day looking for the answer within the threads and finally break down and ask. I guess he'd rather me do work while at work.
On to fixing something else. Plenty of things to choose from on my old ride. |
