Check out this original 69/70 grille I picked up for $37!

Can't believe I found one. It's in decent shape, and includes the insert and all the brackets. Found it at the local junk yard. That's right...$37

I'm excited to shine it up and paint the areas that should be black

I just might convert my old grille to some wall art

Nice score I would take that anodized stuff off and polish it bling, bling then repaint the black parts.

That thing will polish up like brand new. I just used Easy Off heavy duty oven cleaner to take the annodizing off my side trim and it worked like a charm.

Awesome. Thanks for the tip. Do you scrub it with a scotch brite pad or something?

I think you just spray it on and wash it off after it turns it loose.

That's actually a correct '70 grille.
(because of the inner grille)

Yeah, so since my truck is a '69, I'll probably paint the edges of the insert black, and the rest of the checkered insert some sort of metallic silver/gray

I think I read somewhere that the "egg crate" inners are different between 1969 and 1970. The difference being ridges.

In any case, congrats on a sweet find and an equally sweet deal.

Yeah, I have an original '69 grille on the truck, and now I've got an original '70 that I'm restoring, so I can see the differences. It basically boils down to one thing: the '70 grille insert has those darker vertical looking lines. The plastic where the lines are is recessed maybe 1/16th of an inch. The rest of the change comes from how the insert is painted. The 70 is black on the crate part of the insert, but then the outer edges of the crates are painted silver. The exception being the recessed vertical lines are black. The edges of the insert are black, from what I can tell.

If I paint the entire inside of the grill insert a dark metallic silver/gray, and the edges of the insert black, it should look just like a '69 grill unless somebody gets up with a microscope and notices that there are slightly recessed vertical stripes. From what I understand, this is how a '69 GM repo grill is anyway

It was Pic n Pull. I like being able to pull my own parts, and not having vehicles stacked 3 on top of each other.

It took me about an hour to get the grille off the truck. I've never done it before today. I didn't have to drill out any rivets or anything. Just removed the entire thing, that was held on by about 12 bolts.

Yes. I know it well. It is about 600 South, Redwood. I picked over everything they've had for the past month or so. They have a nice 69 or 70, that's on the other side of the fence that they haven't released into the main yard yet. I ask them when, but they don't know. It looks like it probably runs
