Upgrades to 72 6 Cyl
The carb on my 67 (has 72) most likely needs rebuilt. What is a good carb to replace this with that is basically bolt on and go.
HEI distributor... where do you get them for a 6 and is there anything special I should know before replacing? Any other mods that will make it run better and keep it somewhat stock looking? |

Use the carb you have.They're easy to rebuild(I can do it) and the LAPS should be able to get you a kit.I used a 250 HEI from about a 78.I had to change wiring cap and I replaced plugs since they were due and needed regapping,The kit had good instructions and only took me abot 2 hours from start to finish but I didn't soak parts I just cleaned it since it wasn't a show truck.You can put a Pertronix ignition in and keep the stock cap if you really want to retain stock look.Be aware that te HEI will not clear the factory A/C compressor and bracket if you use the coil in cap HEI.There is a version with a divorced coil if you can find one.
BTW get any #'s and such you can off of the carb to help identify which kit you need.

I responded to your other post on the engines and drive section in reference to your question about the carb.
Re. the HEI. I got mine from a later truck (as mentioned above) from a local salvage yard for about $20-$30 and rebuilt it. You can also find them on ebay. Just do a search on inline six HEI distributors. Here's a link. http://motors.shop.ebay.com/eBay-Mot...0.l1313&_rdc=1

Funny story about acronyms. I was in a hopped up Camaro years ago and wasnt doing the speed limit etc. A guy on a Harley pulls up to me and says I needed to slow down. The bike was all decked out in LAPD decals etc. I think to myself I am in Michigan(at the time) must be a replica bike. So I blew him off. Well I was in Lake Angelus lol hefty ticket on that one.

Langdon Sovebolt seems to be a good resource. I bought my separated cap and coil HEI from him, but Tom is a wealth of information, not just a parts slinger.
