best auto floor shift ?

looking to change out my old granny 4 speed to a th350 auto, been looking at lokar floor shifts and b&m. the lokar's have one that bolts to the floor and one that bolts to the trans, i am thinking of a 23" shifter....any way i also want room to move my under dash a/c to the center of the dash and not be mostly on the right side like it is now, has any on here done the auto floor shift and what shifter did you use....and will it be back further from the dash to give me more room to move my a/c to the middle. also have a bench seat at this time.

I just redid mine and pulled the B&M shifter out. I liked it and it served me well for 18 year are so. The thing I didn't like is I could see what gear it was in at night.
I put a S-10 Shifter in it now. I had the 60-40 bench out of a 89 Chevy truck and they work fine.

Re: best auto floor shift ?

i have a Hurst Promatic. Works great. you lift up on it and pull back then push down on it and just smack it backwards to go in D or lower. It is what was in the truck when i bought it.

Why not find a 67-72 auto column? and if you cant find the frame to trans brackets you could buy the cpp linkage.http://www.classicperform.com/tech_a...geStoryweb.pdf

My son is bent on having a floor shifter as well, and has been looking at these

I am interested in what other options we have out there.

X2, when I bought my '69 it had a floor shift in it and the first thing I did was put a stock automatic column in it and it worked great.

I am using B&M shifters in two different trucks, right now and they work pretty well for me. The Megashifters, do have an indicator and they work.

Cool Re: best auto floor shift ?

My truck had the factory three speed column when I bought it and I found a factory tilt for a four speed in a junkyard truck. I swaped it out when I did the 4 speed transmission swap years ago. When I did the 700 R4 swap I bought the B&M shifter. Nothing wrong with it at all except couldn't see what gear it was in at night. My wife didn't like it so I finally swapped to the S-10 shifter now that I posted.
The S-10 shifter also add's some insurance as well.

The way I have it wired even if you crank the truck up it want come out of park unless they know what to do to the shifter. That's another reason I like it.

Re: best auto floor shift ?

i have thought about changing over to an auto column , and really would like that the best, my son has a lead on one but so far it has not paned out, so i have been looking at some of the floor shifts on line...and was wondering what might be the best for the lowest money. i really like what some of you had done and just getting some options on doing it. i have the trans, lines, converter ,one piece drive shaft, flex plate, cross member....all i need now is a starter, flex plate bolts, and a way to shift it..the column shift would give me more room in the middle.
that one in dallas on craiglist looks like a good one ,but thats almost 350 miles away from me.
thanks everyone so far for the info. and pic's and more are welcome. not to sure which way i should go.

The B&M and S-10 shifter's use a cable which is real easy to install. It will need the trans mount for the side of the transmission are you could make one I guess. I used the B&M one and it works fine. I need to buy a longer cable for it but as of now it's fine.
I would offer you the old B&M shifter but I have pplans for it in a golf cart I'm building.

I have Lokar 'nostalgia' 36" double bend hooked to a 700r4. I like it . There is a taller one, but this one is great on my 'nice out' DD.

I want to say a 2000 Blazer is what I got it out of. It's got the brake solenoid wiring in it. This is the anti-theft part for the truck. The reverse light hook up I had to modify it to work but nothing major. If you get it I can help you with the wiring and the small mod for the backup lights.Nothing major it's really simple.

That's fine Just LMK if I can help. It wasn't that hard. The one thing you will need to do is plug up the old hole.
Here is the thread I have on it.
