I just bought some new ac felts which came with adhesive back already on it. If you wanna use your originals I would probably use some 3M weatherstrip adhesive. It's lack a tacky yellowish adhesive

^X2

3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive is also available in black. It works well on weatherstrips, moldings, and gaskets. I'd bet it would work well on the felt, too.

Good deal guys -thanks! Where did you get the adhesive backed felt? I bought my fresh felt from a board vendor and it lacks the adhesive backing. Maybe backed felt is a better way to go...

I got mine from classic parts. The adhesive ones came with the diverted ball housing when I bought them. They sell the felt by itself also. You may wanna ask them if the ones by themself are adhesive backed.

that is some good stuff there.
just tape up what you dont want coated and spray away
IT WONT COME OFF
if you dont want it too. any home depo, lowes, hardware store should have it. lil' pricey but you get pretty much in the can.
another option is the small can of contact cement it come with a small brush in it and if used right it wont come off either but i would recomend the first too as they dont have a tendincy too soak through

the weather strip stuff is really good(n probally less $) also they are all messy so be sure too tape up

word of warning if you go this rout do not get the cheaper spray glue it will fall off in the heat of the summer(see my awesome vinyl headliner in my pontiac)

Re: Need recommendation for adhesive to attach felt to A/C vent ball housing

Thanks again guys - all good suggestions. I have a can of Super 77 adhesive here that I'll try that first: it's leftover from my headliner install. It failed on that task. I had to go with the 3M weatherstrip adhesive in black to get the headliner attached to the roof.

Just a follow-up. The Super 77 worked fine. I applied it to the felt then draped that into the housing. Wes (Classic Heartbeat) says he doesn't use adhesive and the felts stay put. May try that next time. Thanks again, Pete

The ones from Classic parts don't come with adhesive, I cant imagine not having any on there but I've never tried it that way.

X2 on 3M 77 aerosol adhesive. 3M 99 aerosol is even stronger but you can't use it on Styrofoam but felt is OK. Both can be got a Home Depot.

The Super 77 is holding up so far - was a bit messy getting the felt in place and trying to keep it off the free edge of the felt...follow-up pic that shows the repro felt is lighter in color than OEM

I sure liked dealing with Classic Parts- good prices fast shipping and their quality is supreme.

Pete, I find it hard to believe your felts weren't already perfect. I could stare at that truck all day... Anyhoo - been a while since I bought these, but I could've sworn mine were adhesive backed. In fact, I think I bought them for an Impala, they had the same arrangement of felt+chrome ball. Pretty sure they were from either Impala Bob's or Year One - and they would fit these a/c vent holders as well, I'm almost certain. Anyway, glad they turned out good for you.

Thanks! I can't wait for the weather to improve so I can drive on salt less roads. My felt came from Classic Heartbeat (thank you Wes) no adhesive but working well so far. I just saw a pair of NOS chrome vent balls fetch something like $265 or so on ebay.
