Cool Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

Tell me what you think
:gmc2

I Hope to buy it A.S.A.P

The Story behind it: As far as I know My Great-Grandfather Howard Augustus Schrum, bought it new near Dallas,North Carolina..He drove my Uncles and my Grandfather..As time went by, My Great Grandfather gave it to my Grandfather Gerald Schrum. He used it for years and years...He also had a 1971 GMC Sierra(As you see in my Profile Photo,I am currently looking for it).Well the Story goes, the engine blew or something. The back of the Bed was so rusted, it was an unbelieveable sight.Well years go by, it sat up in our pasture well.Someone called complaining about all of his cars sitting up there,Ranging from 1968,1972, Volkswagen Beetles, many StationWagons(Fords/Chevy).,1985 Honda CRX,1988 Honda Prelude, 1987 Pontiac Fiero, and a couple of MG´s...Well he had to find someone to pick them up and haul them to the Junkyard (Est.2005)..Well they were taken to the Junkyard and me and him went through the Cars and Trucks looking for some old stuff and Personal Items..Years went by, I completely forgot about all of that...Gerald passed in Dec 26th 2010, It devastated me...and So on, well by chance my Cousin, She had dated a Young man up in Vale,NC..He turns out to own the 1959 Truck..I desperately wanted to get in touch with him about it..So now I know exactly where its at

The Original Color: Greenish Color(As Far as I know)

Before you ask, The headlights are being re-done by the Current Owners and they are putting new glass in as those old ones were milky looking..They still have the Original Tires that were on it

I hope ya´ll like it, Tell me what you think

Pros and Cons as well

They must be redoing the windshield and back glass too. lol looks solid.

It's too bad your pasture didn't have any hills to hide the cars from objecting passers by.

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

Oh it did trust me and it was behind a Barn and Shed, it was because we had a Fiero and a Crx,RV out in the front of the house I believe..I think the guy was from Taylorsville.I wish I could remember his name.He upset our Family greatly..I always say if you own Land and you want to put anything you want on that Land, then its yours.Your Business no mine

The last time I remembered it, it had very bad rust..But they said everythings original as it once was, maybe a new engine(Possibly)...That Bench seat is the original..I told them to keep it for me

The bed floors were wood.
I feel you on the harasment. I have a 73' travelall that was used as advertising for an auto repair shop before I bought it. I parked it behind my house out of common courtesy. I recived certfied letter notifing me that that buisness vehicles were not allowed at my residence by my HOA. A quick trip to lowes for some rattle cans and it was parked out in my driveway wearing five different colors of paint.
LOL. They were pissed, I was compliant, and they don't mess with me anymore.

But yeah I thought the beds were wood...Is there a way you can make them into Steel beds ?

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

I'm $400 away from owning this truck, I have a job to where i'll be making $400 a week or so

Plans:
Get title in my Name
Have the Glass put in
Buy new Rockers and cab corners
Having the rust areas fixed
Buy a License Plate Tag holder for it
Buy a Wood Bed kit
Install the lights
Buy a New Transmission Cover
New Tail Gate
Buy the greenish paint, I'll have to get the Color Code
Have it painted
Install a Rubber Mat
Have the Seat re done

I'll be pretty much done by then
Since its my Pawpaws old truck, I will not be selling it..I have tried so hard to own this truck, and now I'm getting closer and closer to owning it

Sure, anything is possible with enough money & enough work but why would you want to? Wood beds are one of many things that set our old trucks apart from newer ones.

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

I sold it for $1,650 yesterday..I only put $450 into it ..A lot less than I expected..Its around my town.Being worked on they're going to put a wood bed into it, paint it and fix the rust, so many people told me to do what I wanted to do.I suffer from ADHD as many of you have noticed...I start my job Sunday, and I believe my first pay check ill be able to get the truck...I plan on doing one thing at a time on this one and focusing on things. So with that please help me Focus and keep me on track..

I really love how the 58-59's look like, and not to mention it is my Grandfathers.I'll be stuck with it and working on it for a long time once I get it..I am back at Stage 1 on my search

I do need to know however, Why isn't the 58-59 Gmc 100 Grilles being reproduced????

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

Start looking thru build thread on the window area repair. Some times it is just patching in a few pieces. Some guys have had to remove and repair the complete A pillar and upper eye brow area. Takes good body work to get it right or the windshield will not go in, see Denees thread for the problems she had because of poor repairs by the PO.

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

It may look good, but its rusty in the inside and top

Since I start work, and after I buy it, I'm going to get it home and save up money to have the rust areas fixed from a Body Shop

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

oooh, body shop? prepare to pay thru the nose for that, at least a full years pay with your $400 per week job.
that's why we're here, to talk you thru your body work, wiring, glass install, etc...
why pay to train them (no one can work on old stuff anymore) when you can buy tools and materials and still save money.

you'd be surprised how rusty my grill was when i started.
is it a show grill? no, but truk is a driver.
