68 gmc big block 4 speed
I'm new to the forum and have a question. I'm considering the purchase of a 68 396 4 speed 3/4 ton. All original numbers match including paint and all the paperwork.
California truck with a/c. Price is $18,000. I'd like to hear your opinion on whether this is a fair number. I've seen the truck and it is a true survivor, nice truck. I wouldn't even try to restore it. Comments appreciated. Thanks |

Sounds high, but some pics would help better.

Re: 68 gmc big block 4 speed
Welcome. 18 grand is a lot, but if it does not need any work then it might be worth it. I feel sure the seller has some wiggle room too.

Re: 68 gmc big block 4 speed
Thats for sure a sweet ride, tough call on the price but if a guy wanted a super nice stock truck that looks like the truck to buy.
I would trade my 06 Z71 for that truck no problem. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 68 gmc big block 4 speed
Nice truck. The three things that stand out to me #1 I hate the roll on bed liner they did #2 the emblems under the front side markers are not factory #3 The taillight bezels are 69-72 style? But this is a very nice truck I would say $15K would be my max. How many miles are on it?

Re: 68 gmc big block 4 speed
No rust in the rockers or anywhere that I could see
It's solid as a rock Interesting comment though regarding the fender badge, I assume you mean the 396 badge? Can't comment on the tail lights you would know better than me I'm guessing I did offer 15000 but no luck. 18000 I agree just seems to be a big number but that's what I'm trying to sort through Thanks |

Re: 68 gmc big block 4 speed
Be sure to check the rear cab supports and cab corners, crawl underneath it if you have to. Emblems look like they came off a corvette or something.

Re: 68 gmc big block 4 speed
I saw this on Ebay a few months back, Look at the completed auctions. It looks nice but that price seams high.

Re: 68 gmc big block 4 speed
Those emblems are "396 Turbo Jet" emblems that were on cars like Corvette, Camaro, and Impala's. Not trucks.
Pretty sure trucks like this did not come with color matching wheels either. It looks like it was restored. Very nice looking truck though, but to me the price seems premium for what it is. I have seen much more correct restorations go for quite a bit less money.

Re: 68 gmc big block 4 speed
Would the resevoir for the PS be visible in that pic? Or is it just chopped out of the photo.. Just wondering. I don't think the wheels are correct either, but I think it looks smokin matched with that color combo!

Re: 68 gmc big block 4 speed
Cross flag emblem with 396 very easy to buy and install. Previous owner must have just liked the way it looked. The paint looks extremely good and I have to admit almost hard to believe it is original unless it was garaged and covered for most of its life. I think it shows 70000 on the odometer. Dash is about as clean as a new one.
I suppose it could have been restored to appear like a survivor? Don't know. Appreciate all the comments, very helpful. |

Re: 68 gmc big block 4 speed
Seems a little high for a truck with no hub caps...

Re: 68 gmc big block 4 speed
That is a really sharp looking truck. You would invest that much to get one in that shape. Just depends on what you want and how much work.
Me, I have problems spending that much on any ride. I am "thrifty" and married to an accountant...so I am one super tightwad!

Re: 68 gmc big block 4 speed
Nice looking truck, but seem a bit expensive for a 3/4t and a 4 speed
