Canada/US build differences
Just wondered about differences between trucks built in Canada and the US?
Glove box doors on the US trucks were not body colour like Canadian trucks. Also I have never seen a lower trim level Canadian built truck with glove box emblems/trim, either. Anybody come up with anything else? Posted via Mobile Device |

So, for clarification - are you asking about Canadian built trucks that were also sold in Canada - or are you asking about US sold/Canadian built trucks as well? |

Re: Canada/US build differences
Just wondering about Canadian built trucks in general. Not necessarily Canadian built sold into the U.S. or vice versa. I guess things could very easily be plant specific as well.

Re: Canada/US build differences
theres only two things i know of that iv come across on this forum, one there were some canadian specific paint codes that werent available in the u.s. not sure what colours they were, and there were some canadian specific emblems
there may be and likely are more things but those are the only two that i know of off hand |

Did the Canadian trucks have day time running lights?

Re: Canada/US build differences
DRL's were not a Canadian requirement until around the 1990 model year. However I think some manufacturers had vehicles equipped with DRL and sold in Canada before this.
I have also seen the Z49 code for Base Canadian Equipment on trucks shown with K05 block heater on the same SPID. Not really too sure what Z49 would be if a block heater was added on as an option. Possibly antifreeze? I've never noticed any extra factory insulation or specific cold weather variations in any Canadian built trucks. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Canada/US build differences
Not sure what that CDN base equipt thing was, maybe some different safety or emissions standard.
The GMCs used different model designates...910/920/930 as opposed to 10/20/30. There were colors (actually colours ) offered not available on US-built trucks. In 69-72,a base truck had no glovebox emblem...built anywhere. Are you saying Chevys built in Canada had glovebox doors painted to match the interior trim, like on "all" GMCs?

Re: Canada/US build differences
I've never seen a lower trim level Canadian 1967-72 Chevy that hasn't had an interior colour glove box door.

Re: Canada/US build differences
I used to own a 72 Highlander from Canada and the only difference that I noticed was the speedometer. I looked at what was left of the SPID and it had white/firebolt orange as the paint color which down here would be hugger or red-orange. Maybe the paint name is not specific to Canada...

Re: Canada/US build differences
the 9 designates that your truck is a gmc built in Canada. Thats why they have series 910, 920, 930 as chevy just has 10, 20, 30. Not sure if GMC Canada did this for all years but i know 67-68 had this. The Canadian chevy trucks didn't have any number in that location on the vin they just skipped it.

Re: Canada/US build differences
Chewy, 1969 canada gmc did it to. I don't know about 70 or 71.
Willy, The gmc of canada vins with the 9 are also done in the Chevy format. Your truck a 68 GMC if built in the states would have a vin # of CS10D-1B(serial#) instead of C9S1481(serial#) Different format and different codes. Because canadian GMC's used the chevy format (in 67-69 don't know about 70-71)they needed somthing to denote GMC. So they put a 9 between the chassis type code and the engine type code. The model code is the same way. Canada GMC is C9S10934 USA Chevy is CS10934 USA GMC is CS1590D In 1972 GMC USA caught up with Chevy and used the same formats. That's how the T or C prefix came about on the 72's Here is a pic that shows the 9 as GMC

Re: Canada/US build differences
The 67, 68 and 69 Canadian GMC's could not get the 305 or 351 V6. They only offered a straight 6. Plus the V8, of course.
