Hood chrome on a TF?

Just curious about what opinions are about the hood chrome on TF trucks. I'm thinking about taking mine off. Anyone take theirs off and regret it later?

I like the hood chrome especially if it is v8 chrome.

I'm planning to keep mine. Maybe you should have posted this as a poll?

Keeping mine (six cylinder type) but looking for a V8 one. Don't mind the shaved look either.

The emblem in this photo is the v8 emblem. Notice the v under the bowtie.

Re: Hood chrome on a TF?

Hi! I just put my hood back on, I like it without the hood emblem, but I have the holes in the hood in case I want to install it. I'm not even sure if I want the side emblems either.

Re: Hood chrome on a TF?

Not trying to hi-jack this thread, but I'm going to change my '59 from L6 to V8. I've got the V8 hood emblem, are there different side fender emblems to represent V8 option?

Re: Hood chrome on a TF?

Yes, 58-59 a simple V that mounted on the door. 55-57 had a long V with and 8 mounted below the fender trim. GMC's had two styles that said "V8"", 55-57 on left in photo, 58-59 on right.

Re: Hood chrome on a TF?

Thanks guys. Great info. I have never seen the V8 hood emblem until now.... At least I haven't noticed the difference. I am still torn about taking it off or leaving it. It was originally a 6, but one of the previous owners dropped a V8 from an 84 chevy truck in it.

Guess I should have made it a poll! Not sure I have enough posts to do that though.

Love that color!!! I might follow your lead and just pull it off of there and see how I like it. I'm liking it without the side chrome too.

Re: Hood chrome on a TF?

Thank you so much for the compliment!; ) The color is uncaptureable by camera~ ! In the sunlight it shimmers metallic red and a greenish hugh at different angles, but at night it appears a dark color, almost black!

Re: Hood chrome on a TF?

I am a purist so in the end, I would prefer to have the hood emblem. But I must say I have a 58 that has the hood emblem, the fender spears and the side view mirrors shaved and man it makes the truck look so much cleaner. The long line of the fender into the door is just stunning. I dunno, sometimes the hood emblem gives these trucks a check cab look that I dont like. Just my opinion

Someone correct me if i am wrong. 59s had no other v8 badging other than the one on the hood. Other years did have a v on the side or gmc trucks had the v8 script.

Re: Hood chrome on a TF?

I betcha someone could make a neat decal/graphic as an alternative to the original emblem? Seems like someone on here did that with the side spears?

Agnes - I liked to match and accent my various chrome pieces (hood birds, bowtie, headlight bezels, etc.) to gray and black on Ruby... Just another idea. -Doug

Did you paint your grill too? It looks like a charcoal gray. Looks sharp!

Re: Hood chrome on a TF?

Yes, it is coordinated with the gray on the wheels, bumpers, dashboard, and throughout the interior.
