Re: which oil to use?
Since its higher miles and you don't know what type of oil its had most its life, I'd probably just run a good high quality dinosaur oil, at least for a little while. With high miles, you'll need to replace some seals or leaks, and there's no reason to put $8qt oil into a high mileage pulout and then leak it all out.
If its a SUPER clean engine and doesn't leak or burn anything, or if you plan on doing a rebuild on it, then for any performance/hobby car, a top quality synthetic is where its at. I've run Royal Purple, Mobil 1, Redline (all 5w20 or 5w30 depending) with good results.

Re: which oil to use?
I would think the High Mileage Mobil 1 would be a good choice. I have used it in my 4.3L V6 from about 140K miles to present which it now has over 225K miles and still running strong.
