Steering Column swap help!!!
I have a 71 c10 dark green inflation fighter. Originally 307 with 3spd on column.
So someone before me has put in a 305 with a TH350 trans. They added a floor shifter and removed the lever on the column. I'm good with the auto but hate the floor shifter. So I found an auto non tilt column off eBay. So today I go to swap. But apparently the column isn't from this truck as it is sea foam green in places. And the shaft seems to be one piece from the column to the rag joint at the manual steering box. Is this normal? So is there an intermediate shaft? I notice in LMC catalog that they offer an intermediate shaft for putting their tilt column in a 67-68. Is this what this column is from?

Re: Steering Column swap help!!!
Sounds like you have a column out of something else. Might post a pic of what you have for some help. But the correct column does have a intermediate shaft.

Re: Steering Column swap help!!!
I think that is the wrong column. I have a 70' and it looks nothing like what you have. Mine has a U-joint and intermidate shaft between the steering column and steering box. Not sure how different a 71 is from a 70 though... go to LMC online and take a look at what a stock steering column is supposed to look like.

Looked at LMC catalog and nothing like what I have. Now I have to find one of those shafts.

Re: Steering Column swap help!!!
That is a factory 67-68 column in your truck.
I just removed the stock column in my 68 and it is nearly identical. I do not know if there was a difference in regards to PS versus non. Shane |

Re: Steering Column swap help!!!
Here is my steering shaft... it is not quite stock because I added a tilt steering column. The only thing that is different from the stock 70' set up is the look of the U-joint.

Re: Steering Column swap help!!!
That's definitely 67-68 style shaft.

Re: Steering Column swap help!!!
Well okay...
So it must be from a 67-68 and that is why LMC says you need to buy an intermediate shaft for only those years.... Weird to know that someone put this in my truck... Anyway. .. THANKS GUYS!!! Posted via Mobile Device
