New member and new 64 GMC
A couple weeks ago my uncle asked if I would pull the engine out of this pickup because he had put it in and wanted it for his 55 1st edition, He asked if I wanted to just keep the pickup and I said hell yes haha. My grandpa bought it new in 64, it was driven until about 97, always was a farm pickup from the day it was new. That being said this thing is really straight and clean and will be a fun project, a slow project as I'm fairly busy and not rich, but it will be fun. I'm 21, have always been a car nut, in fact I already restored a 1963 pontiac wagon that was also my grandpas, it's going to be really neat to have two of the rigs he had at the same time together again.

Re: New member and new 64 GMC
oh yea that's for sure, I think I'll get it rolling when I figure out my engine and transmission combo and drive it as it is for awhile, may leave it that way. Obviously needs the front fenders fixed like most of these do but that's really the only rust on her

Re: New member and new 64 GMC
For those who wanted to see my Pontiac here is the best pic I have. Disregard the for sale sign in the back window, I was toying with the idea of selling it last summer when I really needed money but I talked myself out of selling and kept the old girl.

Re: New member and new 64 GMC
found a transmission today, a 78 TH350. That will be perfect behind my late 60's 350 chevy. this thing's very slowly coming together

Re: New member and new 64 GMC
Hello and welcome. I always remember to honor that 35 MPH speed limit in Hollister as a slow spot in the otherwise high speed run to Jackpot Nevada!!
Glad you are keeping Grandpa memories going. I wish I still had my Grandpas old yellow '48 5 window farm truck that was my irrigating rig on our dairy. I was the only kid in grade school that could drive!!!! ahh memories.. take pictures and have fun!!!

Re: New member and new 64 GMC
Have been doing a lot of searching the past few days while the weather has been nasty and have come across most of the parts I need to get this old girl rolling, now I just wait for my tax return and I can get them all ordered

Nice to see two rigs kept in the family. Both the truck and wagon look great. Looking forward to the progress updates. Welcome aboard!

Re: New member and new 64 GMC
Thanks for the welcome! I took a couple more pics while doing some measurements today. The interior is dirty but in pretty good shape as far as paint and all that goes, especially considering it sat for probably ten years with the window down

Re: New member and new 64 GMC
Tore down my engine this week. I wasn't planning on rebuilding the engine but we found out that it had gotten water in 2 cylinders so we honed it, will re-ring it and give it a valve job. I'll hopefully have a few pics to put up in the next day or two

Re: New member and new 64 GMC
Here is a few pics of my parts, I have a 1969 crate engine that was in a grain truck, only has about 20,000 miles on the engine so it is incredibly clean inside, no sludge or anything that a typical engine has. Unfortunately it got water in two cylinders even though it was kept in the truck for it's whole life so I had to hone it and will be re-ring and doing a valve job. I found a 78 TH350 to put behind that. the other pics are just miscellaneous parts, going from 2 barrel to a quadrajet and some little upgrades like that.

Re: New member and new 64 GMC
Looks like good progress. I have a 350 in mine with a TH400 behind it. Been working on the cab. Have you thought about headers? I have looked around and have not found seen ones that I know will clear the frame and starter.

Re: New member and new 64 GMC
I haven't really looked at headers, I love the look of rams horns and I'm not going for super high performance so they aren't really on my to do list
