Color Preference
I am considering restoring a SWB BB Cheyenne and am considering a color change. These two colors are among my favorites. What do you guys think?

Re: Color Preference
I'm a fan of the two tone white on the side with white cap. Both of those colors would look great on a two town SWB/BB set up. But I would have to go with the Hugger Orange.

Re: Color Preference
Dark Olive Poly. You picked two of my favorites. 514 red is always nice too, but I have to admit, it's a little overdone (still one of my favorites). If starting from scratch and doing a complete color change, I think the dark olive is a perfect choice. Their interiors are beautiful. It is also a little more "subtle" dare I say than the orange. You can't go wrong either way, but I vote dark olive.
Are you planning a solid color only? White tops and deluxe two tones are pretty common on re-do's. What about a less common 2-tone? Perhaps med olive top/dark olive body, or med olive top/light yellow body (have never seen this on a 1/2 ton shorty, only on C20s and some Longhorns.... When they are done well, makes for a very nice, unique combo. Last edited by jocko; 02-10-2013 at 03:02 PM. |

Re: Color Preference
I will have to go with the Dark Olive Poly. It is one of the best colors on our trucks IMO.

Re: Color Preference
I like them both but I would go with the tangier. I always wanted to do one that color but I end up going red or black.

Re: Color Preference
I tried to buy the "516" Tangier Orange GMC twice and just couldn't get the job done. The 516 Orange is very tempting with Parchment buckets/console. The Dark Olive with Green Interior would also be awesome!! The truck is originally Light Olive and to borrow a saying from Paul Duncan, "a color change is nothing but fixing a factory birth-defect."

Re: Color Preference
Ok, I'll pile in with some food for thought: (by the way joja - nice idea, I've always loved war bonnet yellow, and it would look ALMOST like a factory choice on these trucks). Considering that.... How about Vette monaco orange as a twist on the orange?? (shown in 1st Pic on a 70 chevelle). 2nd Pic is a Tangier orange. Rest are dk olive or red-orange/hugger (except for the 2nd one in the 2nd group of pics - not sure what orange that is).
Btw, was tangier orange originally a fleet color only? Last edited by jocko; 02-10-2013 at 03:27 PM. |

Re: Color Preference
This 4x4 REALLY moves me toward the Dark Olive. I think this is the same truck as above but with Rallys (VERY high-dollar 4x4).

I am partial to the white top(for some reason lol) and this truck needs the upper trim.

That is nice but I really want to stay with a single color. Every other '72-Vintage truck I've owner was 2-tone with white on top and on the sides. Plus I'll get to put lots of NOS parts to use. I'm sure I could do better financially if I sold the truck and parts and found a ground-up truck already complete, but what kind of fun would that be? Hope your Dad is doing better!!! Dan |
