Gauge Bulb Caps and Sockets
I climbed under my dash yesterday to check out the bulb situation on my gauge cluster and found that I have a couple missing bulb caps as well as a few sockets that don't light a good bulb. I'm guessing that the dead sockets are a problem with the circuit layer but does anybody know where to replace the caps that are missing and what portion of the cluster the caps actually fasten to? All my gauges work great, I'm just the type of person that wants everything working right, even if it's that minor. Thanks for any help, Troy

Re: Gauge Bulb Caps and Sockets
The sockets are available at LMC, and the bulbs are available at any auto parts store, Walmart, etc.
Your best bet is to remove the cluster and check the printed circuit board to make sure It is in good shape. You'll have access to everything and be able to clean it all up in the process. New circuit boards are also available. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Gauge Bulb Caps and Sockets
I have a few of the sockets that you can have, how many do you need?

Re: Gauge Bulb Caps and Sockets
You can get the socket & bulb as part number PC 194 at most any auto parts stores for about $2 bucks each. The last time I bought some I had to order them, it only takes a day or two.

Re: Gauge Bulb Caps and Sockets
Thanks for the info everybody. I think I'll get what I need and make this my project for next weekend. I'm hoping that the ones that the sockets that won't latch in are just because the cap itself is worn out. Thanks Shawno for the offer of the caps, but if they come with the bulbs then I'm good.

Re: Gauge Bulb Caps and Sockets
i recommend these. i use them in every vehicle i have. The LED lights really help make the older gauges more visible. they'll work on the 60 - 98 GM dash clusters /6Pcs-White-PC194-T10-Instrument-Cluster-Led-Light-Bulb-Dash-Socket-For-Chevy-/231584199982?fits=Year%3A1972|Make%3AChevrolet&hash=item35eb7e752e&vxp=mtr"]

Re: Gauge Bulb Caps and Sockets
I had a similar problem with good lamps not working in several spots with an oem printed circuit and a repro pc on my 72 stepside. I noticed one of the clusters from a truck I parted out (68 or 69) had lamp holder that takes a lamp with brass base instead of the bayonet glass base. I swapped all of them over, old lamps and all, and they all came on. ??? The old cluster was missing a few so I had to scrounge around for teo more. I forget now who had them, but they did the trick.

Re: Gauge Bulb Caps and Sockets
PC168 and PC194 sockets are too small for my 71 C10.

Re: Gauge Bulb Caps and Sockets
Can you post pictures of a socket from your cluster that does fit, along side the new one that doesn't fit? And picture of the back of your cluster where you are trying to fit the bulb?

Re: Gauge Bulb Caps and Sockets
Found the right socket at Napa part # LS6501.
I don't have a pic of the wrong one as I returned it. They look identical the wrong one was just a little smaller diameter.
