Am I Missing Something?

This truck on Ebay is advertised as a GMC Sierra Grande. I'm not a Super Spid Guru like some members but isn't the Spid in the pictures from a Chevy? I thought CST trucks were Chevys only.

Re: Am I Missing Something?

i believe it's correct - no preceding "T" until 72 in GMCs, the CST is a chevy and gmc thingy, but the giveaway is in the model number - the "57" is specifically a GMC swb truck (whereas a chev would be an "07"). Other hints are the model year "1" AFTER the fremont plant designation rather than before it as in a chev. That was a gmc VIN ordering thing. Not sure if the "-" was GMC-only also, I think it was. neat little truck

Re: Am I Missing Something?

I would still think that it is a Sierra and not a Grande as the code is Z84 instead of YE9. Lots of 71 SPIDS still listed Z84 as CST instead of Cheyenne. I have also seen many GMC's that list the YE9 on the SPID but call it Cheyenne Super Equipment instead of Sierra Grande.

Re: Am I Missing Something?

It looks like it is a Sierra. Decodes as a very early 71MY Fremont built GMC. Most of the examples I have around this time that are listed as "Sierra Grande" from Freemont are 70s and they have both the Z84 Custom Sport Truck and Z17 "Sierra Grande" or "Sierra Grande Truck" upgrade listed on the SPID. A quick look through my folders is showing this to be pretty much the same for 71s from other plants (US market) and 72s rolling over to the YE9 RPO code for Sierra Grande. Unfortunately most of my SPIDs are face value and I generally can't say for sure how a truck "was" compared to the SPID. My thought is if this "is" a Grande without the Z17 code it is due to a factory transition or mistake.

This last column of the build sheet seems to confirm it being a "Sierra" as well. RPO Z17 if present, would be in this column.

U63 P/Button Radio
Z18 GVW Plate
Z84 Custom Sport Truck
Z53 Amp-Oil-Temp Gauge
536 White/Ochre
626 Parchment Trim

For what it is worth the truck appears to be for dealer code 216 and routed through ElPaso (box123)

Re: Am I Missing Something?

See you guys are the Spid Gurus. It just ddint look right to me and I thought "CST" was a Chevy only thing with "Sierra Grande" being the GMC equivalent.
