Cool looking for truck with this mod........

It belongs to someone on this board....it's a red chevy with a relocated Gas tank leading to the rear using the side marker as a door revealing the filler hole......if anyone has the link to it I'd be greatful.....I am going to do the mod on my truck and I want to see if any improvments can be made.

I think this is the truck you're talking about: http://www.classicheartbeat.com/danny_cummings_4x4.htm

And here's the "how-to"

I believe the truck you are referring to belongs to "tennman", it is a 72 red SWB 4x4 with fuel filler door where the left rear side marker is located. Try doing a search if the search feature is again working. Not sure as have not used it lately. His is a great looking truck by the way. Couple cuts above my 71 4x4 for sure.

I don't recall seeing it done on a stepside yet, at least not on this board, but I was thinking about doing it with mine. I don't think my builder would appreciate me adding any more fab work to the project though, LOL.

ttt, maybe someone knows of a step that's had it done

Is it the same installation method on your stepside slogo? I am just about ready todo tis conversion within a couple of weeks and I want to start getting everything ready!! Do you have any more pics??? Also do you think 235.00 shipped is a good price for a new steel tank, sending unit, straps, and all hardware? I think it might be, but I was just checking on your opinion.

I know it's ancient, but I did a search to find out about the gas door. I REALLY want to try it, but my trucks already painted and I don't want to mess up the fender if I have to have something welded up. Sure am glad the search function works again. It helps cut down on same question threads, just rekindles old flames!!

Sorry to beat the dead horse here, but I looked at Tennmans site, but there are no views if the installation. All I'm really trying to find out is how does the fuel filler door attach to the truck? I know it attaches to something with screws, but what? If someone had a picture of the filler door alone it would help. Does it screw in where the screws are behind the signal? I can figure most of this out, but I don't want to mess up my fender. Thanks again.

It bolts to the bed but they end up being hidden behind the market light. You only see them when you open the "door"
Check out the link below. It has some better pics I think...

"When you get your S/10 flap door, make sure you get the old hose and also the plastic guard around the filler neck, this will come in handy later, the filler guard is actually bolted to the filler tube!"

http://www.classicheartbeat.com/mark...t_gas_door.htm

I have an original step side bed on my 71. I wanted a late model step side bed but I have changed my mind. I now want a fleetside bed. (any one want to trade?) I want to know if anyone has made the rear tail light in a fleet bed tilt down to hide the filler??
