Cam choice in a 350 .60 over
please dont move, hoping to get more help here, the engine and drivetrain section has led to few comments. wanting to ask some of you guys what cam you are using in your sbc. ive got a .60 over 350 that im fixing to install flat top pistons in. ive got 461 double humps that have been race ported, opened up bit time. they have been cleaned, decked all new guides and seats. they are 202/160 valves 3 angle job. im gonna use the felpro blue gaskets. im wanting to ask what cam would be my best bet. i definitely want a thumpty thump cam idle but good performance for my setup. im guessing my truck has 373s, not sure, i mean it burns 1 tire pretty good so maybe. ive got a turbo 350, im going to install a shift kit, ill get a stall converter to go with the cam. im gonna run a hirise and an edelbrock 600/650. opinions? i like the sound of the lunati 268h

Re: Cam choice in a 350 .60 over
Call the cam co tech lines.Tell them what you just told us and add Tranny, rear gear ratio, tire size and truck use. They'll ask CR and head flow. They may ask even more. They have matched cams to combos for so long they will have the best choice for your setup.Cam co's are not like buying from other co.They generally have a good idea what goes into the right combo, that's where the power is.

Re: Cam choice in a 350 .60 over
It's hard to beat a 268 high energy comp cam. Somewhat lumpy idle, great power and economy and good vacuum for accessories

Re: Cam choice in a 350 .60 over
The theory of a cam is to match up everythng, so that it will work properly. Depending on a tranny, you may have to get a different stall on your torque converter if your cam is serious enoguh. Otherwise the vehicle will stumble at a stop and try to push you through the light or stop sign.

Re: Cam choice in a 350 .60 over
A 268 High Energy is my go-to cam on many of my builds over the years. If you want a bit more choppy idle go to a 270 Magnum. It's still very streetable but needs a looser converter to make it pleasant on the street.
Here is my 63 truck with a 268 High Energy. Sorry about all of the steam. It was cold that morning when I took the video. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=aIjenvDSpAw Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Cam choice in a 350 .60 over
Yea i definitely want a streetable truck but i want to concentrate on performance also. Ive got the standard radiator in it now, should i upgrade it? Id like somewhat of a stout truck off the line. What do you guys think i should go with. The heads are bare, i havent put in springs yet and im just going with a hyd flat tappet. Id like to make around 375-400hp. Goal anyways

Re: Cam choice in a 350 .60 over
I have a about the same motor as you do minus 2.02 heads. My cam is a 268 with .477 .484 or real close to that I dont remember exactaly. I also have 1.6 Crane rollor rockers. This is through long headers, 2 1/2 exhaust, and series 40 flowmasters. I tried to upload a vid but it would not let me. Look up Bryan Eddlemon on FB and there is a vid with no exhaust and one after the new exhaust. And no the power steering pump isnt whinning it doesnt have one. The whinning is the Erson geardrive.

Well I'm a long time Weatherford resident and I live on the Weatherford side of Springtown so I can almost see the honeys in Weatherford.

Re: Cam choice in a 350 .60 over
im wanting to stay with hydraulic flat tappet for $ reasons. im just wanting a solid cam that wont be a dog down low, something with spunk to move a truck well, and still breathe good all the way up .

Re: Cam choice in a 350 .60 over
stay under 280 advertised duration and 450 lift.......read all specs before you choose one, they will indicate which converter you will have to run....and look at raising up your rockers degree a little.
If you go on Comp Cams website, you can kinda get a little sound of what a few of teir best seller cams sound like in your 350SBC. |

Re: Cam choice in a 350 .60 over
the 268H is a good all around choppy idled, hydro flat tap RV cam....and not overly expensive.
