Gauge Bezel bulb receptacles?

I have replaced all the gauges in my bezel with aftermarket guages except the speedo and fuel gauge. Since I can wire the fuel gauge independant and the speedo just uses a cable figured if I could find some replacement receptacles that use wires instead of the green circuit board, would make life alot easier.

Does anyone know if receptacles like this exist?

Check classic parts or classic industries.

Measured the hole, it is 5/8" Can't find anything that takes a 194 or 168 bulb that isnt the printed circuit connector

See this thread post 2 and post 8. You might shoot one of them a PM and ask them. Reference the thread, I'm sure they will help.

Re: Gauge Bezel bulb receptacles?

Yeah I had found that thread before and in post 2 it states:

"Notice that an Autometer gauge light goes where the factory twist ones went. ( another nice Surprise!)"

So I did try and use the autometer lights in the factory holes. The Autometer lights I have would fit a 1/2" hole not the 5/8" holes. Those posts were made in 2004 and 2005 so wonder if Autometer had made a change to their light sockets then or maybe the 5/8 " were for the 3 3/8 guages which they dont carry any more.

Re: Gauge Bezel bulb receptacles?

In case you were not aware, AutoMeter has at least two types of bulb holders in their gauges. One is a twist in type (similar to our factory ones) and the other one is a snap-in kind. You just push straight in..no twisting required.

You might also try a common 'tag-light' replacement socket (think mid-80's C-10 rear bumper) from the local parts house. Most are closer to a rubber-material than hard plastic. They push/twist.

Re: Gauge Bezel bulb receptacles?

I did look on there site...

Autometer lights and bulbs

I found a couple that thought "could" fit..

They have this one:
3220

and this one..

3211

Thet dont give a hole diameter though, only say what guages they will fit. Summit carries them was waiting for them to open and ask them about the 3211...

I bet you could solder a pig tail onto the ears and make yours hard wired.

I had thought about that too however they would ground out on the metal housing... unless of course I put a rubber washer there or something. Thought it would be easier and quicker to just by sockets that would fit.

Im going to head to NAPA at lunch and see what they have. Waiting for a call back from Summit.

Re: Gauge Bezel bulb receptacles?

Found a solution....

Went to Advance to see what they had for light receptacle. Found Dorman number 85814, Says Primary application is GM and Ford sidemarkers 1995 through 72.

It has 4 tabs on it so with a razor and removed 2 and trimmed the remaining 2 to fit the slots. Works like a charm. Thanks to those who tried to help
