gas tank removing

I'm sure this has been asked before but I don't remember the answer and I can't search for it. How do you get the gas filler neck out from the cab with it still hooked to the gas tank. Should I just hit it to get it to come out?
thanks for all the help guys

I would use some WD-40 on the seal, or if the rubber is real hard cut the seal off first. Hitting the end of the neck may cause your cap to leak. good luck

don't use WD-40 on rubber seals it causes them to deteriate to lubricate a rubber seal it's best to use dishsoap but if it's the original grommet it will probably need to be cut off if it's all hard and cracked , if it's not cracked and hard hot water and the soap should loosen it up enough to pry it out of the hole and off the filler neck . DO NOT START HITTING THE FILLER NECK WITH A HAMMER!!!!
