Flip kit question?

I am in the middle of putting the axle, springs and flip kit together. It seems that the axle will not seat down in the saddle due to the saddle legs being too long and bottoming out on the bottom side of the original spring perch. Drivers side is about 3/16-1/4" from resting in the saddle and the passenger is about 1/8" from resting. I assume that I need to take the saddles back out and start cutting them down until the axle rest in the saddle. I don't have a good way to cut them down. All I have is a cut off wheel on a 4" grinder. Here are some pics of the gaps. First two are drivers and next three are passenger. Passenger are kind of hard to see. Bad angle. Any advice before I start cutting. Do I need to cut equal off both sides of the saddle.

Grind them even and make sure they are not loose when the axle seats.

Saddle "leg length", will also dictate pinion angle,...

Could the leaf spring pin be too long? I wouldn't cut those with anything but a 4" cut off wheel on a grinder...

Sorry guys I was out trimming the saddles down. This is a Western Chassis flip kit. I think I have them seated where they are supposed to be. Now I have a second question. These come with what they call the 6 hole plates that go under the axle. Depending on what direction I turn them the u-bolts either pitch toward the front of the truck or the rear. Once the bolt in seated in the plate it does not set straigh up and down. Whether the bolts are pitched towards the front or rear it is not that bad. Does this matter.

I still have it up on jack stands, so will the axle rotate one way or the other when on its own weight?

Look at the red circles.
The "offset" hole in the saddle goes towards the front of the truck.
The matching "6-hole" u-bolt plate, has a matching offset hole,... that also goes towards the front of the truck.

Thanks Keith. I appreciate that. Back out to the shed to snug it all up. I am supposed to wait until all the weight is back on it before tightening everything up right? The only thing on the frame is the cab. Should I just snug it all up and wait until after it is painted and get the bed and front end back on it to tighten it all up? This includes that I just put all new bushings in the leaf springs and saddles. Do I not tighten them up yet?

This kit didn't come with instructions so I am winging it. I had the saddle right. With the hole facing towards the front though.

I think you will be fine tightening the u-bolts snug tight.
Then do the leaf spring and shackle bolts when you have ALL the weight on the truck.

Holy smokes! I am glad that is done. I got it all buttoned up and then realized the bottom shock bolt was put on from the outside in. So I had to take it all back apart and take get the bolt out and shock off then put it all back together again. I will put the wheels back on tomorrow, set it back on the ground and then start on the front suspension. Sure wish I had a lift to put the truck on.

ha i did the same thing but the bolt was rusty, i didnt want to deal with it so i cut it.
