Like we ain't got enough to worry about.

I was surfing the interwebs news today, and I came upon an interesting article. It was about how in this tight economy, the theives are having to resort to stealing unusual items to get there fixes.

http://money.msn.com/now/9-strange-things-thieves-steal

Scroll down to page 10, which is the #9 thing being stole.

(and yes, there is a reason I posted this here)

I've heard a lot of reports of this on newer trucks with the backup cameras. On another forum I frequent one of the members had his stolen off his Tundra and it was about $3500 to replace it.

That's the thing that made me wonder why they showed a picture of our trucks. On newer trucks, the tailgates come off so easy. I know that ours are valuable, but they are also difficult to remove. Heck, your lucky if you can get one of the bolts to come out without spinning the welded nut behind it.

Catalytic converters are being stolen at alarming rates. I believe my brother in laws insurance claim came out to $3800 for the ones stolen off his new Tundra. He now has specialty made locks installed on his trucks catalytic converters! Dudes get under there with a saw and go to town.

It's just an artsy pic of a truck. Probably a royalty free stock image the news agency bought. They don't know one truck from another

Yea, they don't know crap about trucks but want to charge you all they can for coverage and then not pay on a claim...crooks. As for everything getting stolen, it is bad. People are also roaming around looking for any kind of metal to steal and sell. If you have engine blocks, steel parts, aluminum transmissions, etc they will take them too.

This isn't new stuff guy's just new's people bored and have no good news to sale so they put this up. Catalytic converters have been a big iteam since they have silver in them. Most scrap yards in SC want even take them since they are stolen most of the time. Metal has been a big issue of late. Tailgates off the mid 80 to 90 chevy trucks were always easy to steal. Just some bored new person wanting to have something to write about.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Like we ain't got enough to worry about.

I have often wondered how easy it is for someone to steal my tailgate. Especially on my 80 where it slips off. At least on my 68 it has to be unbolted, which only slows them down.

Re: Like we ain't got enough to worry about.

Good thing my tailgate on my 78 is beaten to crap. LOL nobody would want it. An easy solution would be to bolt on a cable to replace the stock folding arms somehow. Or rig up a little padlock system on the inside to keep it locked shut. Then they would have to cut off the lock to remove the tailgate.

I think cordless grinders and cut off saws should be illegal. Makes it too easy for people to steal everything these days.

Re: Like we ain't got enough to worry about.

I work for a city and we have had a bunch of cast iron storm sewer grates stolen in the last year. They weigh a ton and you would think that someone at a scrap yard would be wise to them when the bring in something that just isn't scraped too often.
