Another 700r4 question
I have a 700r4 (4L60) in my 69 SWB. The problem I have is that it won't down shift like I want. For example: your doing 50 mph, it's in 4th with lock-up, you slow down to 25 mph for a school zone or small town, than when it's time to speed up your still in 4th with lock-up. It always down shifts when you hit the gas but its annoying as hell. I use the brake switch to control the TC. So, I need better lock up control and I need it to down shift sooner. I do not want to use a toggle as my wife drives this truck and this would confuse her. I think if I were to do this conversion again I would use the 4L60E with the computer. Thanks.

Is your TV cable adjusted right? Do you have the correct TV cable?

Look on B&M's web site...they have a pretty good kit to control your lock up converter.

I do have the B&M kit but have not installed it yet. It will help but the fact that it won't downshift on it's own is the real problem.

If not mistaken, it will not down shift onless it comes out of lock up first.

Ron,
Like Slammed69 said-check your TV cable. Longhornmail-I think it will shift with the TCC solenoid in lock. I just took mine apart and the guy who had it b4 had installed a check ball so it would lock all the time. As soon as line pressure increased to a certain level, the TCC would lock in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The only noticeable shift was 4th, as it lugged my tired old 350 pretty bad. I don't know if the B&M kit has the vacuum switch in it, but I really like the way mine shifts since I added mine. Got it from a late 80's sub and it can be wired it in series with the power or ground. Good Luck, Kent

Im running the B&M lock and I think its the best way to go. NO Vacume switches, NO togal switches and NO brake light switch. It works of the speedo cable. You can get lock up in forth ant any speed. I have mine set to lock up at 60MPH.When it drops 10MPH it unlocks, so mine unlocks at 50MPH. You cant much easyer then this. Only thing its a little pricy.

1-PU70. I got the B&M set-up used from a friend. Like I said, I have not yet installed it. It came with no directions so I need to contact B&M about getting those. The wires are a little messed up also. Does your tranny down shift on it's own? Like if you coast down to 30mph are you still in 4th? Thanks for everyones response

It downshifts fine. It also downshifts when you stomp on it too.
