Brake bulkhead fittings
Why is it so difficult to find bulkhead fittings to route the brake lines through the frame? I know there are a ton of options if you want to run AN and adapters, but really I'm just looking at replacing my stock setup because I lost the originals. Maybe I'm not using the correct search terms? If anyone has an idea, or some direction, I would greatly appreciate it!

Re: Brake bulkhead fittings
Look at Speedway motors for brake fittings.

Re: Brake bulkhead fittings
Are you trying to plumb the front?
Do you have to go thru the frame?

Re: Brake bulkhead fittings
I've looked through their stuff, but it's all AN fittings and I really don't want to deal with that. I'm really wanting the stock 45* I.F. stuff, but cannot seem to find a source.
I am trying to plumb the front, and I wouldn't HAVE to go through the frame. I just wanted to get it back to the original location. |

Re: Brake bulkhead fittings
Most 73-87 rubber brake hoses have the inverted flare fitting made on the end of the hose.
They go thru a hole in the frame (attached with a clip) and your steel line connects directly to that. In fact,... the 67-72 hoses just go thru a tab mounted on the crossmember. Same set up. Hose on one side, steel line on the other. Maybe I don't understand what you are trying to do. Steel line on both sides of the frame?

Re: Brake bulkhead fittings
Ha...It's probably more like I don't know what I'm doing LOL. I was thinking that the T on the driver's side (and elbow on the pass) went through the frame, and the hose from the caliper screwed in on the outside of the frame. If I understand you correctly though, the hose will actually protrude through the frame and connect to the T/elbow on the inside, thus eliminating the need for a bulkhead. Is that correct?

Re: Brake bulkhead fittings
67-72 trucks go under the frame along the back side of the crossmember.
73-87 trucks go through the frame. (these hoses are much longer) What year truck are you working on? 2wd? 4x4?

Re: Brake bulkhead fittings
Keith, I really appreciate your help and insight on all this. Mine is a '69 4x4 which went through the frame initially. The T in the second picture is one of the fittings in question that I've misplaced due to my excellent organizational skills

Re: Brake bulkhead fittings
Only thing close I can find is one for the rear.
http://www.classicparts.com/47-70-Tr...ctinfo/71-882/ I think you are going to have to buy a used one.

Re: Brake bulkhead fittings
May not be what you want to hear but if I was making lines there is no way id use 45 I.V. when AN has so may advantages, No double flare, can be dis/re-assembled nearly infinite times and seals much better.

Re: Brake bulkhead fittings
After posting I realized my first post was pretty useless to you so here are my suggestions. Have you tried McMaster Carr?, Ive also had good luck with that kind of stuff at the local places that make hydraulic hoses.

Re: Brake bulkhead fittings
I appreciate your response! Now that everyone has set me straight, I went down to my local hydraulic shop, and they are going to make me up some new hoses with the proper ends that go through the frame. I decided to have them make me some because I have a lift and needed them longer anyway. This ended up being much cheaper than the 4x4 shops.
