Ok, decided to work on my truck today after...I really can't remember.

Anyway, I start it up and it won't turn without serious force as if trying to turn the wheel with it not running. I check the new p/s pump and it is bone dry, so I added fluid to the pump and it still won't turn easy. And the fluid comes right back out. None of the p/s lines are leaking.

The p/s gearbox has always had a small leak, but always worked fine. I look under the truck and there's a huge spot of p/s fluid?

What's really going on here? Is the box total trash now?
How much fluid does the gearbox need to work?

Jack the front tires off the ground, see if you can turn them w/o he weight of the truck on them? Once you get them to turn it will take a few pints to " fill " the system. And the gasket is a seal to seal out grime from getting in to your pitman arm.

After you put it up on the stands, Leave the engine off while turning lock to lock. Do that several times. Add fluid, repeat. Once level is up, then start. check it, then set down and try again. Should be good to go.

Just cut the belt. Been driving like a man for three years now

If your hoses aren't leaking then why is there a big puddle on the ground? Depending on how long it sat to leak that out of your steering box

^The leaking is coming from the gearbox as soon as I add fluid.

If it's coming out of the gear box that fast just get a reman unit.

It is running out minutes after pouring it in the pump. Who has the best prices on rebuilt boxes? Any online stores?

Its coming from where the pitman arm connect to the box.
