Well, decided to remove the bed to get to the sending units on my 87 swb r10. I need to replace the fuel pumps for my motor swap. The bed came off incredibly easy. Didn't spray bolts with anything at all. Just unbolted them. I was super stoked. Well, after lifting the bed, the sending nits are completely under the cab.

So I guess dropping the tanks is the only way. It does help with access to one of the straps where it bolts to the frame. Super bummed though. I guess those who did it this way had long beds or didn't have dual tanks maybe???

I can see my sending units between the bed and cab. Yours must be an odd case. Long bed or short? Mines a short so that may be why

Lol only option left. I bet the sending unit shifted forward due to fuel injection. I do know the tanks are different with the 87 having the internal baffle. That might have shifted the sending unit forward. Only thing I can think of.

Are there 2 sets of 4 bolts attaching each tank to the frame or just one set of four per tank?

It's the same in my truck. Sending unit under the cab. Did the same mistake last year.

Sucks royally. I think it will still help a little with the bed off but not what I was hoping for. Oh well. At least the bed was a piece of cake to remove. Lol

Mines a LWB and dual tanks, I still had to drop the tanks

After looking at it with the bed off it doesn't look to be too hard. Having the bed off will make spraying on the bed liner a little easier. I can get to all the lines so I can remove them before dropping so that helps too.

I can see the senders on both my trucks between the bed and cab. Maybe a TBI thing...??
