Did you glue your carpet down?

I'm unhappy with my new carpet from AAC. It looks good and seems to be of high quality, but I can't seem to get all the... humps out. There are little places here and there where you can tell the carpet is standing up off the cab floor. Don't like it. Looks bad. I was told not to glue it down or I'd regret it when it came time to take it out of there. But looking at so many of you guys' pics, it looks like your carpet conforms perfectly to the floor. Don't know what I did wrong.

I could be wrong but I think it should be glued down, otherwise it will always move on you

I quit putting carpet kits into my projects years ago because the molded carpets never fit the way they should and cost as much as an upholstery shop.

I have never used or heard of AAC.

The guy at the upholstery shop has been telling me for years to always start your work from the center and to work your way to the edges.He also said you need to cut and sew the carpet in order to get a good fit.

I tried carpet from Classic Industries and found the same result. High quality carpet, just couldn't get it to look nice

When I ordered one for my dads superbee I told them to specifically take it off the press and ship it flat. They didnt the first time so I sent it back talked to the supervisor and got one shipped out in a month with an oversize fee in a big cardboard box made of 2x4s and we installed the carpet in 15 mins.

Unroll it and lay it on the floor with bricks in the sun. Steam any loose or tight spots and like they said start from the middle and work out. Most likely you will have excess but that's not an issue. Cut tuck and roll.

Don't want glue but don't want it loose? Velcro. Thin Velcro holds thing like this rather well.

NO, dont glue it down. If you are not happy with the product, send it back but with most aftermarket products they are not going to e perfect. FY!...ACC is one of the leading suppliers of carpet kits and most places you order a kit from will have gotten it from ACC.

Didn't think about an upholstery shop. Sounds like I should have. The ones around here are all specific. There is one that does seats. Then there is one that only does panels and dash. Then there is one that only does headliner. Gotta find one that does carpets.

I have never tried it on a vehicle before but you can buy the good quality two sided carpet tape for $10-$13 and give that a try as well.
I have used it for many different things and it actually works pretty darn good,.

Might give that a try too. Is this something that's just your standard walmart item?

I am not sure if its a Wal-Mart item or not.If you have a flooring store or a decent sized hardware store they will have it.Once it is in place it holds better than the cheapy carpet sprays.

somebody used a nice heavy carpet type of glue doing the 88
prob during it's conversion
seemed to emit a burning smell (drivers hump)
what a mess trying to get rid of it,I gave up ,short of blasting it.....

I've never had aftermarket carpet fit correctly in any of my vehicles. My truck is going to the upholstery shop to have carpet installed. I can get a higher quality plush carpet with padding and matching floor mats made for the same price.

Well I got dynamat down below the carpet. That might be easier to pull up than glued down carpet. Not sure. Think I'll just take the truck to the upholstery shop. Didn't think of that when I ordered the new carpet. Nor did I think to use velcro or two sided tape or anything. But I want it to look like all those show trucks where the carpet conforms perfectly to every contour of the floor. Looks so much nicer that way.

There isn't much carpet in a truck cab but I would double your $125 estimate and that is for California shops.

If your buying a carpet kit for $125 it is a 100% certainty it won't fit or look right.

I'm pretty sure that's about what I paid for my carpet kit. It was AAC, and supposedly they're top notch. I get the sense that I'm doing it wrong.

Don't go to an upholstery shop for carpeting. They cannot create the molded features in the aftermarket carpets. They will have to cut and sew the seams of the carpet (around the transmission hump, under the seat riser area, etc.)

I got a cheap carpet at a local upholstery shop for about $125, but it had a lot of cuts and loose edges and was very thin. . I put Walmart treadmill mat over the hump and on the exposed under seat edges, and held it in place with the rocker panel trim. Then I put Huskyliner floor liners over the remaining exposed carpet. The entire floor looks like a rubber floor mat.

I would put that Walmart mat over whatever carpet you install - I think 3'
x 5' is about $20. You can cut slits and tape it on the underside where you need to, then take the whole thing to an upholstery shop and have them stitch the seams for cheap.
