Does anyone have a good place that explains how to troubleshoot the Oil pressure gauge not working, like where the sender is located? And also how the volt meter is supposed to be hooked up as well.

I have an 87 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 with a 350.

The truck book I have really sucks and doesn’t have it anywhere in it that I can find.

A dead oil pressure gauge is usually the sender. It is kinda under and behind the distributor. If you take off the cap you can get to it. Voltmeter not working is just a dead gauge usually.

In 87, the oil pressure guage is probably right above the oil filter. The up on top beside the distributor is a switch for the fuel pump. This is the way it is on my 87 Chevy van anyway. On my 85 C10, they are both beside the distributor on a brass tee. Either way works.

Thanks for the response guys, I totally forgot I made this post after giving up in frustration last weekend.

I thought I had found the oil sender on the driver side of my block near the front, in between the exhaust manifold. Going by the book I had that was supposed to be the location. Once I started to remove that sending unit, water started seeping from around the threads. So I thought to myself 'self, this sure as hell isn't it, better put it back cause you're letting the magic out'

That is the coolant temp sensor (but you probably figured that out). You found another sensor! Is your truck TBI or carburated?

Then check around the oil filter like swerve said. He knows all!
