Stainless Steel Speaker Grill

Does anyone know where I can locate a SS Speaker grill for my '53 Chevy truck. All the ones I see are painted. It seems odd to me that they make SS glove box doors but not speaker grills.

If it's like the one i bought for the '51 suburban it's all SS with some paint on the ribs.... just put some paint thinner on the paint to remove it and it'll be all SS....

Mine is just regular steel but I am going hunting with a magnet now.

Parkwood, I bead blasted the paint off and the underside is a dull finish. I put water on this dull surface ans it did not rust so I figured that it was SS, but when I used a magnet it was attracted to it which makes me wonder. I assume that the surface was etched in order for the paint to adhere to the SS surface. I now wonder if I polish the surface out can I make it shiny like polished SS?

A magnet will stick to lower grades of stainless but not as good as mild steels. I would try polishing a small area. what can it hurt?

mknittle, Good suggestion. I used a steel wool pad and some rubbing compound on the lower lip. It did shine up. I will try some 1200 grit wet sandpaper next. My guess is if I get a polishing kit from Eastwood I can get it looking prettty shiny. I will let you know how everything turns out.

My hunt turned up 8 speaker grilles. one looks like it might be stainless and one has no rust. the one that looks like ss is in a 49? deluxe cab with stainless window and windshield moldings. the rest are all mild steel. however I didn't leave the yard

Or do you have a big lunch box you can carry?

Oh wait window moldings- are those for the rear/corner windows?

the ss molding is door windows and windshield. I have enough to make a set less the back window for my 3window 52GMC.

No worries, I was just wondering what something like a grill would cost at a commercial yard.
I don't want to waste my time, and find out someone wants 75 just for a grill.

That must be one helluva yard!
Right now, my "yard" is a shopping kart full of go kart parts, and a mini bike project

I've looked, but any reasonable price seems to be from a sketchy seller. Besides, It's cool finding other parts from real people

The one i bought new came with the upper and lower SS moldings, ash tray with chrome knob.. i had the paint stripped off and we wood grained it to match the dash.. It cost $95
