A couple of questions for SSTIM and JOCKO

Hi guys. After all the help you guys gave me on the 72 Highliner I'm buying,I come to you again for help on my 69. Ill start by saying that the 69 appears to be rebodied on a 71 cab and frame. I have disc brakes, a drivers side vent in the doorjam, and a bolt on rearview mirror. The 69 glovebox and spid is on the truck. Here is what the slid says.
1. 4504Aa. olive green
2. 4M35GA powerglide trans
3. 4631BA black vinyl trim
That's it. Have either of you guys seen a spid with this few options? The 69 was a V8 according to the vin. What V8 would have been in front of the glide? I think that the rear end may be original to the truck. It has marks from where it was swapped from trailing arms to the leafs that are on the truck now. If the rear end is original to the truck, what gear ratio might I have? I'm thinking maybe 4:10's but maybe 4:56?
Sorry, I know that since my truck is not original that it really doesn't matter, but I'm curious. Thank you for any thoughts or opinions on this truck. I'm willing to answer any questions either of you may have for me as well. Chris

Today is not a good day for much but I do need some more info just to speed things up.
First off did you check the frame VINs?
Does the cab have a VIN plate on the door post?
Please post a model number in fact a picture of the SPID too.

Hi Tim. Yes it has a vin plate on the doorjam. It does match the title. I haven't looked at the frame vin. I'm really not sure where it might be located. Ill post a pic of the spid in the next few days. Btw, the model number is CE10934. Thanks Chris

I've seen SPIDs with no options. Yours has only one and it's somewhat unusual. Is the VIN-plate a two piece,as found in '69s? What year does your title say? Powerglide would be from '69 or earlier. The truck would have had a 307 since that was the standard V8. The Powerglide could be found with either 6 or small block. The ratio would be 3.08 standard,I believe. Not real familiar with Powerglide equipped trucks,so could be 3.73 with those,but certainly not 4.10 or lower.

One option and no option trucks are rarely seen anymore at least stock.

The model number CE10934 is a Chevrolet V-8 1/2 ton LWB Fleetside pickup.
The base V-8 engine would be a 307
M35 Powerglide two-speed automatic trans were offered in C10s through 1971though rarely seen that late. Two-speeds are just not enough for a truck even with the torque converter multiplication.
The base gear ratio was 3.73 with an optional 4.11

Hi Chris, pics and the SPID when you get the chance to post will really help. Tim and Tim are off and running on the questions to help decipher, I can't add much.

I'm curious why you think you have a frame swap (or cab swap)? You mentioned the VIN on the metal plate matches the title. Does it match the SPID? Possibly a glovebox door swap??

The disk brakes don't mean a lot - the crossmember could have been swapped over just to have disks - or it is a frame swap if the frame VIN doesn't match. I believe the frame VIN is on the top part of the C-channel as you look down in the engine compartment - kinda under the master cylinder and booster. Someone check me on that, I might be mixing up with 60-66's.

VERY interesting it has a pglide. I've never seen that - and I learned just above from SSTim that they were offered thru 71 - I'd never have guessed that.

Not unusual to have only a few options. If motor not listed, and the VIN has an E (as in C"E" then it was an original V8 truck, and a 307.

I think I've only re-mentioned what Tim n Tim said above Sorry!

Ok guys, Ill try to answer everything. Jocko, I believe they frame was swapped due to an accident. I can't prove that, but the cab as ac, the vent in the drivers door, a cargo light, and the cab is all black. No sign of the olive green paint that's on the doors and from clip.
The truck has a 350 of unknown origan. It has a Jasper th350 as well. strangely, it also has a posi rearend. according to Tim's powertrain chart a 69 with a glide would have a 410 standard and 457 optional. I know the truck really screams at 60-70 mph.
Now here is a good one. The doors are 72.I know that because of the 72 door panels (not conclusive) and the screw just below the vent window. The wierd thing is that the doors, and the front clip are olive green. I thought that pretty neat.
Oh, yes the vin, title and spid all match. I'm not horribly worried about originality as I plan to put a 454 in it and build it the way I want it to be.

I forgot to mention that the inside of the glovebox is olive. The rest of the dash (inside and out) is black with the outside of the glovebox being black. Oh, the cab has a high hump as well. Not sure what that means in the grand schemes of things, but there it is. Chris

Just a guess, but either a cab swap, or someone switched some stuff to a truck with no title. I would check the frame numbers and see if the plate in the door has been switched.

Frankentruck But it sounds like you have a handle on things so far. Until we get some pictures there is not much more I can offer.
Also when I sent you to the charts thread I had forgotten the 69 C10 had not been posted yet. So the standard 307/powerglide axle ratio was 3.73 opt. 4.11 like I first posted. The numbers you quoted were for a C20. Sorry about that.

I worked for a Chevy dealer right out of high school in 1970, and have personally seen '65 Corvettes with 427 engines in front of Powerglides...thinking, "WHY?. They are out there.

To add to this, what is a 'Highliner?". A lot of options are possible with autos and trucks. Just go look at "COPO" cars from every GM dealer, most notably Chevrolet.

As far as engine/trans/diff combinations go, I have driven (in the same time frame) a 1/2 ton van with a 250 Cu In six, 400 THM and 4.11 axle. Talk about a digger.

I believe he meant Highlander. It's a late 72 model year bundled trim option (seat) or a bundled option package (for a discount) - three levels available.
That is not the truck Chris is currently asking about though - he had some previous quesitons on a 72 (I was starting to get confused about that.. )

Thanks Jocko, I did indeed mean Highlander. My fingers typed faster then my brain. Btw, I have bought the Highlander.
Today I stopped and looked at couple of trucks. I drive by a poor neglected 71-72 GMC 2500 every day. (Not for sale) And a 71-72 chevy (no one home) and got a lead on 2 other trucks in another location. I also have a buddy that found another 71-72 on his way to a fishing spot. I need to convence my wifie that I really NEED 5 or 6 of these trucks. Thanks again, Chris

I had a COPO truck with two options...gauges and Powerglide (250 engine). It was a '69 C/20 LWB Stepside. I say COPO because it had special paint. It was light grey AND the 16.5 wheels,all 5,were a deep red. It had the original tires on it and when you dismounted the tires it was red in there with factory markings. We have an ag supply chain out of Richmond,VA that uses those colors,yet this truck never had any signage. Possibly ordered and never taken,like my '85 Jimmy Park Ranger special edition ()

The 71 blue and white 2300 mile C10 (steve haffner / joesjunk) is a powerglide.
