Tunes on the cheap?

I have an old 64 stepper, no radio in it and a place under the dash where an original speaker should go.

I am not much on listening to radio, cd's or anything other than an old Ipod I have.

Since I am deaf as a post in one ear and not a heck of a lot better in the other I really don't need high dollar sound, just want to slap something in the dash where I can listen to my Ipod.

I did buy a "stereo" speaker set up from Brother's that is supposed to replace the original dash speaker.

SO...bottom line is what is a quality unit I can install, use the speaker(s) I have on hand and listen to my Ipod?

Thanks in advance...

Re: Tunes on the cheap?

I pulled the old radio from mine, didn't like the POS modern radio in my truck. I got this
http://www.amazon.com/Rockford-Fosgate-R125-2-2-Channel-Amplifier/dp/B007BG5NLW/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=24APIX82BPWSC&coliid=I363MY8Y6D0DYI

and a set of these

http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-TS-X200-Surface-Bass-Reflex-Speakers/dp/B00009QOQB/ref=sr_1_16?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1367029741&sr=1-16&keywords=pioneer+speakers.

Mounted the amp under the bench on the hump and one speaker under each side of the bench. Use a minijack to RCA cable to hook my current smartphone up. Think the set up with wiring cost just under 200 and its completely hidden besides a mini jack cable that lays on the bench.

Also keep my old smartphone with some music on it, a speedometer app, and a gps app that doesn't require internet access in the truck. Glued some cloth covered earth magnets and store it on the stuck to the roof behind the visor to keep it handy. Eventually will probably add a 50 dollar bluetooth receiver to get rid of the minijack cable.

Re: Tunes on the cheap?

Pawn shop is where I got my amp, I know LKQ sells very nice after market stereos (tested. too) for $40 or less. I usually look at craigs list or pawn shops for audio stuff before going retail if I am looking to just fill a void vs building out a system.

While you aren't looking for something as stupid as mine, I spent less than $300 total for everything. You could easily do a good quality system for under $100 that sounds good and fits your needs.

Re: Tunes on the cheap?

Not too concerned about looks.

I am more interested in simple. Plug the Ipod in, turn on the radio and turn it up. Simple is better.

I figured i'd trhow the Ipod in the ashtray since I don't smoke it might as well be put to good use.
